Insurers, employers, and individuals create demands for laboratory testing in "wellness programs." Tests chosen to identify cases deserving intervention included routine automated chemical tests plus high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, ferritin, and thyroid tests. Participants' unwarranted concerns were addressed with a personalized reporting schema. We tested 1338 individuals, identified 224...
Muscular dystrophy-dystroglycanopathy (MDDG) is a genetically and clinically heterogeneous group of muscular disorders, characterized by congenital muscular dystrophy or later-onset limb-girdle muscular dystrophy accompanied by brain and ocular abnormalities, resulting from aberrant alpha-dystroglycan glycosylation. Exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing were performed on a six-generation consa...
We review the class of partial-propensity exact stochastic simulation algorithms (SSA) for chemical reaction networks. We show which modules partial-propensity SSAs are composed of and how partial-propensity variants of known SSAs can be constructed by adjusting the sampling strategy used. We demonstrate this on the example of two instances, namely the partial-propensity variant of Gillespie’s ...
A new method, the Dynamical Systems Method (DSM), justified recently, is applied to solving ill-conditioned linear algebraic system (ICLAS). The DSM gives a new approach to solving a wide class of ill-posed problems. In this paper a new iterative scheme for solving ICLAS is proposed. This iterative scheme is based on the DSM solution. An a posteriori stopping rules for the proposed method is ju...
We demonstrate a diode-end-pumped passively mode-locked 1338 nm Nd:YAG laser with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. At the absorbed pump power of 8.89 W, an average output power of 1.12 W was obtained with a slope efficiency of 14%. The pulse width was 22.4 ps with a repetition rate of 63.9 MHz, corresponding to a peak power of 782 W. In addition, the bandwidth of the mode-locking spec...
