Treponema pallidum-immobilizing (TPI) antibodies were examined in intradermally infected inbred strain 13 and adoptively immune inbred strain 2 guinea pigs. Both strains of animals produced TPI antibodies at or after 90 days of infection. TPI antibodies were not associated with the protective mechanism(s) operative after challenge in adoptively immune animals.

BACKGROUND Clinical practice guidelines recommend objective nutritional assessments in managing chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients but were developed while referencing to a North-American population. Specific recommendations for assessing muscle mass were suggested (mid-arm circumference, MAC; corrected mid-arm muscle area, cAMA; mid-arm muscle circumference, MAMC). This study aimed to asses...

Amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) aggregates induce nitro-oxidative stress, contributing to the characteristic neurodegeneration found in Alzheimer's disease (AD). One of the most strongly nitrotyrosinated proteins in AD is the triosephosphate isomerase (TPI) enzyme which regulates glycolytic flow, and its efficiency decreased when it is nitrotyrosinated. The main aims of this study were to analyze the im...

Tuna processing by-product is estimated at more than 100,000 metric tonnes annually in Iran, which could be a potential source of edible protein in human food. Hence, recovering proteins from tuna by-products is a big achievement in the seafood industry. In this work tuna protein isolates (TPI) were extracted from dark/ red meat using the isoelectric solubilization/ precipitation method. Oxidat...

The transcriptional organization of the Corynebacterium glutamicum gap-pgk-tpi-ppc gene cluster, encoding glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, 3-phosphoglycerate kinase, triosephosphate isomerase, and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase, was investigated by Northern (RNA) blot and primer extension analyses. Four transcripts corresponding to gap, to gap-pgk-tpi, to pgk-tpi, and to pgk-tpi-ppc w...

In a Hungarian family with severe decrease in triosephosphate isomerase (TPI) activity, 2 germ line-identical but phenotypically differing compound heterozygote brothers inherited 2 independent (Phe240Leu and Glu145stop codon) mutations. The kinetic, thermodynamic, and associative properties of the recombinant human wild-type and Phe240Leu mutant enzymes were compared with those of TPIs in norm...

We have monitored the level of mRNA encoding the glycolytic and gluconeogenic enzyme trisephosphate isomerase (TPI) during the growth arrest of cells by serum deprivation and the subsequent growth activation of cells by serum addition. This analysis has demonstrated that the steady state level of TPI mRNA changes 5-20-fold, depending upon the cell type, during the transversal of cells from a pr...

Heritable mutations, known as inborn errors of metabolism, cause numerous devastating human diseases, typically as a result of a deficiency in essential metabolic products or the accumulation of toxic intermediates. We have isolated a missense mutation in the Drosophila sugarkill (sgk) gene that causes phenotypes analogous to symptoms of triosephosphate isomerase (TPI) deficiency, a human famil...

The metabolism of inositol phospholipids of the erythrocyte membrane was compared in normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY), spontaneously hypertensive (SHR), and stroke-prone SHR (SHR-SP) rats. This was performed on isolated ghost membranes by measuring the incorporation of 32P from [ gamma-32P ] adenosine triphosphate (ATP) into the diphosphoinositides (DPI) and the triphosphoinositides (TPI) which ...

BACKGROUND Building on earlier work, the toxicity probability interval (TPI) method, we present a modified TPI (mTPI) design that is calibration-free for phase I trials. PURPOSE Our goal is to improve the trial conduct and provide more effective designs while maintaining the simplicity of the original TPI design. METHODS Like the TPI method, the mTPI consists of a practical dose-finding sch...
