The Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is one of the major causes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia during pregnancy. Both incidence and symptoms of PSVT are exacerbated during pregnancy and may significantly affect maternal and fetal outcomes during caesarean delivery. We outline the anesthetic management of a patient with WPW syndrome undergoing caesarean delivery.
WPW syndrome is recognized by the existence of delta waves and a short PR interval on the electrocardiogram. Delta waves may appear as a positive or negative deviation on ECG tracing corresponding to the localization of accessory pathway. Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome may exist in healthy athletes. Herewith the author describes a case report of a young athlete who showed an ECG-WPW patte...
The presence of Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome in patients presenting with syncope suggests that tachyarrhythmia may be the cause. However, the symptoms require careful evaluation. Two young patients presented with syncope and were found to have WPW syndrome on their ECG. In both patients symptoms were suggestive of vasovagal syncope. During tilt testing, both the patients developed their...
BACKGROUND There are a paucity of data about the long-term natural history of adult Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) patients in regard to risk of mortality and atrial fibrillation. We sought to describe the long-term outcomes of WPW patients and ascertain the impact of ablation on the natural history. METHODS AND RESULTS Three groups of patients were studied: 2 WPW populations (ablation:...
PURPOSE The aim was to assess atrial fibrillation (AF) and vulnerability in Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome patients using two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE). METHODS All patients were examined via transthoracic echocardiography and 2D-STE in order to assess atrial function 7 days before and 10 days after RF catheter ablation. A postoperative 3-month follow-up was...
A female patient, 56 years old, with type A Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome and congenital skeletal abnormalities of the hands and feet is described. Though all four limbs were affected, the patient's main disability was caused by the defects of the right hand: this was short and hypoplastic, with hypoplastic phalanges, absent nails, syndactyly, and fibrous constriction rings on the finger...
Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is a common cause of supraventricular tachycardia that carries a risk of sudden cardiac death. To date, mutations in only one gene, PRKAG2, which encodes the 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase subunit γ-2, have been identified as causative for WPW. DNA samples from five members of a family with WPW were analyzed by exome sequencing. We applied recently designed...
Background: Radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation is an effective method of treatment of patients with WPW syndrome. The purpose of this study was to analyze the initial and follow -up results of RF ablation of such cases in our hospital. Methods: 255 cases with WPW syndrome that had delta wave in sinus rhythm ECG underwent electrophysiological studies in this hospital. All the cases underwent ...
