Coastal bermudagrass hay was labeled with Cr by the Cr-mordant procedure and with 177Lu applied to the same fiber. Neutral detergent fiber prepared from the same Coastal bermudagrass hay was labeled with Yb, 169Yb, Tb and 160Tb by soaking overnight following by thorough washing and drying. Wood chips were similarly labeled with Sm or La, and Solka Floc was labeled with 147Nd and 141Ce. The carr...

Wood is the major source of fiber supply. Non-wood fibers are mainly used in papermaking where there is a lack of forest resource such as in China and India. Cornstalk, among the agricultural residues and other non-wood fiber, is the most promising source of fiber. However, The usage of cornstalks is very limited in pulp and paper industry, although nearly 284 million tons/year are available wo...

Pneumonitis due to hypersensitivity to wood fiber is mainly associated with the fungus that colonizes it. We present the case of a male affected with hypersensitivity pneumonitis in which the agent implicated was medium-density fiberboard, an engineered product whose main component is pine wood fiber. The causal agent was identified by means of a specific bronchial provocation test.

A change in cellulose lattice spacing can be detected during the release of wood maturation stress by synchrotron x-ray diffraction experiment. The lattice strain was found to be the same order of magnitude as the macroscopic strain. The fiber repeat distance, 1.033 nm evaluated for tension wood after the release of maturation stress was equal to the conventional wood values, whereas the value ...

The plate of a pultruded fiber-reinforced polymer or fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) profile produced via a pultrusion process is likely to undergo local buckling and cracking along the fiber direction under an external load. In this study, we constructed a pultruded glass-fiber-reinforced polymer-light wood composite (PGWC) profile to explore its mechanical performance. A rectangular cross-sect...

hemicellulose of southern yellow pine wood spices was extracted by pressurized hot water at three different temperatures: 140°c, 155°c and 170°c. compounding with pp (polypropylene) was performed by extrusion after preparing wood flour and sieving to determine its mesh size. the ratio of wood to polymer was 50:50 based on oven-dry weight of wood flour. all extraction treatments and control samp...

Potassium methyl siliconate (PMS) was investigated as a new nano modifier of wood fiber and wood flour to improve the compatibility between the fiber/flour and the plastic matrix in fiber reinforced plastic composites. Before injection molding, bleached and brown pulp fibers and mixed species wood flour were pretreated in PMS solutions. The morphology of the treated and untreated fiber and flou...

Ab&act The structural performance of medium density fiberboard (MDF) is attributable to three primary variables which are: physical and mechanical properties of individual wood fibers; fiber-to-fiber stress transfer; and fiber orientation. These origins of fiber properties and stress transfer can be traced to the fiber generation method wherein fiber orientation is associated with mat formation...

The Wilhelmy principle was used to investigate the wettability of wood fibers in various aqueous solutions. The sensitivity and reproducibility of the measurement were significantly improved by using a group of separated fibers as compared to a single-fiber method that was reported previously. This accurate and reproducible method allowed us to investigate contact angle and wettability of wood ...

The designated fiber stress values published in the American National Standards Institute Standard for Poles, ANSI O5.1, no longer reflect the state of the knowledge. These values are based on a combination of test data from small clear wood samples and small poles (<55 ft (<17 m)) and field experience up to the time of adoption of the standard in 1965. A number of changes over the past 35 year...
