Nuclear markers such as microsatellites have allowed the identification of conservation and management populations of the Hawksbill turtles. In present study, eight microsatellite loci were studied. 60 samples of hawksbill turtles. flipper from Shidvar and Hormuz Islands have been surgically removed and preserved in 20% DMSO buffer. DNA was extracted using DNP KIT and amplified by PCR methods. ...

BACKGROUND Some single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP), located in Toll-like receptor (TLR) genes, were reported to be associated with human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infections. The study was aimed to assess the correlation of SNPs at TLR4 and TLR9 genes with the occurrence of congenital cytomegaly, based on available samples. METHODS Reported case-control study included both HCMV infected and n...

I appreciate Weinberg and Morris’ thoughtful commentary (1) on my paper (2). In their article, they put my work under the perspective of gene mapping in the postgenomic era. I share the same view with them that the method proposed in my paper amounts to a tree-shaking approach to harvesting the high-hanging fruit (a low-cost approach to generating hypotheses aimed at localizing diseasesusceptib...

Genetic data from autosomal loci in diploids generally consist of genotype data for which no phase information is available, making it difficult to implement a test of linkage disequilibrium. In this paper, we describe a test of linkage disequilibrium based on an empirical null distribution of the likelihood of a sample. Information on the genotypes of related individuals is explicitly used to ...

We characterized 24 polymorphic tetranucleotide microsatellite loci for delta smelt (Hypomesus transpacificus) endemic to the San Francisco Bay Estuary, CA, USA. Screening of samples (n = 30) yielded two to 26 alleles per locus with observed levels of heterozygosity ranging from 0.17 to 1.0. Only one locus deviated from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, suggesting these individuals originate from a s...

I show that fine-scale localization of a survival-related locus can be accomplished on the basis of deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and linkage disequilibrium at closely linked marker loci. The method is based on chi(2)-tests and they can be performed for age-specific samples of alive (or dead) individuals, as for combined samples of alive and dead individuals.

Genetic similarity of spouses can reflect factors influencing mate choice, such as physical/behavioral characteristics, and patterns of social endogamy. Spouse correlations for both genetic ancestry and measured traits may impact genotype distributions (Hardy Weinberg and linkage equilibrium), and therefore genetic association studies. Here we evaluate white spouse-pairs from the Framingham Hea...

Testing for deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium is a widely recommended practice for population-based genetic association studies. However, current methods for this test assume a simple random sample and may not be appropriate for sample surveys with complex survey designs. In this paper, the authors present a test for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium that adjusts for the sample weights and co...
