Treated herein is the elastic buckling problem of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SCNTs) under axial compression. Critical buckling strains cr ε of stocky SCNTs (length/diameter less than 8) that have been obtained by modeling them as first-order shear deformation (thick) shell theory (FSDST). The buckling strains are compared with those obtained by commonly used thin shell theories, such as th...
With the reduction in power consumption and size chip, the electronic industry has been searching novel strategies to overcome these constraints with an optimal performance. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) due to their extremely desirable electrical and thermal properties have been considered for their applicability in VLSI Design. CNTs are defined as sheets of graphene rolled up as hollow cylinders. T...
In this paper, the radial breathing mode (RBM) frequencies of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are obtained based on the multiple-elastic thin shell model. For this purpose, MWCNT is considered as a multiple concentric elastic thin cylindrical shells, which are coupled through van der Waals (vdW) forces between two adjacent tubes. Lennard-Jones potential is used to calculate the vdW ...
Thin-walled shell-type structures are widely used in various branches of technology and industry. Such under operating conditions usually exposed to loads, including thermomechanical ones. Real shell structures, as a rule, have complex shapes. To increase reliability, reduce material consumption, for technological reasons, they designed inhomogeneous systems thickness. This causes great constan...
We describe the capsulation of colloidally templated polythiophene (P3-TAA) arrays with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) after colloidal template electropolymerization. The dissolution of the polystyrene (PS) particle templates, which were assembled via the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB)-like technique, allowed the formation of hollow-shell Janus type arrays.
We report the fabrication of core-shell structured snowman-like microparticles coated with multi-walled carbon nanotubes and their electro-responsive electrorheological behavior under an applied electric field strength when dispersed in silicone oil. It is observed that they form a chain-like structure, possessing microfluidic potential applications with their solid-like property.
Abstract– This article describes an investigation into the free vibration of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) using a nonlocal elastic shell model. Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity is implemented to incorporate the scale effect into the Donnell shell model. Also, the van der Waals interaction between the inner and outer nanotubes is taken into account. A new numerical solution method from i...
This paper is concerned with the buckling of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) under axial load. The DWCNTs are modelled as two cylindrical shells, one shell nested in the other and Winkler springs are introduced to connect them in order to simulate the van der Waals forces between the two nanotubes. By using the Donnell thin shell theory, we derive the governing equations for the bucklin...
