The rise in the incidence of tuberculosis is generally related to human immunodeficiency virus infection. However, intracranial tuberculoma, a complication of tuberculosis considered to be a critical disease, can develop even in the absence of immunosuppressive state. Here, we describe 2 cases of intracranial tuberculoma occurring in patients with no evidence of immunosuppressive state or past ...
immunodeficiency and autoimmune disease may occur concomitantly in the same individual. some of the immunodeficiency syndromes, especially humoral defects are associated with autoimmune disorders. hematological manifestations such as thrombocytopenia and hemolytic anemia are the most common presentations. persistent antigen stimulation due to an inherent defect in the ability of the immune syst...
chronic granulomatous disease (cgd) is a rare primary immunodeficiency disorder characterized by a greatly increased susceptibility to severe fungal and bacterial infections caused by defects in nadph oxidase of phagocytic cells. we aimed to investigate immunophenotype alterations of naïve and memory b cells and b1a cells in peripheral whole blood from iranian patients with cgd. ...
364 CMYK hyperintense bright spot signal of the normal neurohypophysis, thickening of pituitary stalk and enlargement of neurohypophysis in cases where it is involved. A review of literature revealed only two case reports of this association with lymphocytic hypophysitis (both in female patients), and one case with granulomatous hypophysitis (intrasellar tuberculoma). Surgical intervention is r...
A bacteriologically confirmed case of tuberculous abscess of the brain is reported. Tuberculous brain abscess unlike tuberculoma does not exhibit the typical granulomatous changes and the diagnosis is confirmed by demonstration of tubercle bacilli either by staining or culture. An antituberculous regime should be started immediately the diagnosis has been established.
BACKGROUND Failure to generate phagocyte-derived superoxide and related reactive oxygen intermediates (ROIs) is the major defect in chronic granulomatous disease, causing recurrent infections and granulomatous complications. Chronic granulomatous disease is caused by missense, nonsense, frameshift, splice, or deletion mutations in the genes for p22(phox), p40(phox), p47(phox), p67(phox) (autoso...
