In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, genes near telomeres are transcriptionally repressed, a phenomenon termed telomere position effect (TPE). Yeast telomeres cluster near the nuclear periphery, as do foci of proteins essential for TPE: Rap1p, Sir2-4p, and yKu70p/yKu80p. However, it is not clear if localization of telomeres to the periphery actually contributes to TPE. We examined the localization patt...
results two weeks after transplantation, the mean tpe decreased to 0.052 ± 0.002, which was significant compared to pre-hd (p < 0.001) and post-hd (p = 0.019). the mean tpec was 0.059 ± 0.002, which, just in comparison to pre-hd, was significant (p = 0.005). in addition, the mean tpe/qt decreased to 0.143 ± 0.005, which was significant compared to pre-hd (p = 0.018). the mean qtd was 0.066 ± 0....
Grafting of glucosamine hydrochloride moieties to tetraphenylethylene (TPE) motif furnished a novel cationic water-soluble tetraphenylethylene derivative (GH-TPE). With aggregation-induced emission properties, GH-TPE was used for fluorometric detection to alkaline phosphatase through enzyme-triggered de-aggregation of the ensemble of GH-TPE and substrate.
BACKGROUND Treponema pallidum subsp. pertenue (TPE) is the causative agent of yaws, a multi-stage disease, endemic in tropical regions of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and South America. To date, four TPE strains have been completely sequenced including three TPE strains of human origin (Samoa D, CDC-2, and Gauthier) and one TPE strain (Fribourg-Blanc) isolated from a baboon. All TPE strains are highl...
We report a fluorophore, TPE-TPP, with AIE characteristics which is utilized as a fluorescence probe to monitor the α-synuclein (α-Syn) fibrillation process. Compared with ThT, TPE-TPP shows a higher sensitivity in the detection of α-Syn oligomers as well as fibrils with a stronger fluorescence. The performance of TPE-TPP was evaluated using fluorescence, AFM, dot blot, and SEC.
RATIONALE Hypertension associates with sudden cardiac death, its relationship with ventricular arrhythmias being demonstrated by multiple studies, an increased dispersion of repolarization being an important arrhythmogenesis mechanism. Only a small percentage of hypertensive patients presents increased blood pressure values exclusively as risk factor, most of them presenting additional risk fac...
OBJECTIVE Pleural effusion (PE) adenosine deaminase (ADA) has good performance in detection of tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE). However, few study was conducted for its value in pediatric patients. To evaluate PE ADA in diagnosis of pediatric TPE, a retrospective study was performed. PATIENTS AND METHODS 204 pediatric PE patients were enrolled, and then were grouped into TPE group (77 case...
We demonstrate that channelrhodopsin-2 (CR), a light-gated ion channel that is conventionally activated by using visible-light excitation, can also be activated by using IR two-photon excitation (TPE). An empirical estimate of CR's two-photon absorption cross-section at lambda = 920 nm is presented, with a value (260 +/- 20 GM) indicating that TPE stimulation of CR photocurrents is not typicall...
Early, active multiple sclerosis lesions show four immunopathological patterns of demyelination. Although these patterns differ between patients, multiple active lesions from a given patient have an identical pattern, which suggests pathogenic heterogeneity. Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) has been successfully used to treat fulminant demyelinating attacks unresponsive to steroids. We postula...
It is often anticipated that two-photon excitation (TPE) laser scanning microscopy should improve cell survival and tissue penetration relative to conventional one-photon excitation (OPE) confocal scanning laser microscopy (CLSM). However few studies have directly compared live cell imaging using one- vs two-photon laser scanning microscopy. We have used calcein-loaded in situ chondrocytes with...
