Abstract: A novel modular arc-linear flux-switching permanent-magnet motor (MAL-FSPM) used for scanning system instead of reduction gearboxes and kinematic mechanisms is proposed and researched in this paper by the finite element method (FEM). The MAL-FSPM combines characteristics of flux-switching permanent-magnet motor and linear motor and can realize the direct driving and limited angular mo...

The open-loop torque control of synchronous motors with minimum torque ripple and minimum copper losses is presented. The control problem is viewed as an optimization problem for the nonlinear mapping from desired torque and position to the motor's phase currents. The performance of the controller to produce virtually ripple-free torque and to enhance the precision of position tracking is demon...

The rotor design of Synchronous Reluctance Motors (SynRMs) has a large effect on their efficiency, torque density and torque ripple. In order to achieve a good compromise between these three goals, an optimized rotor geometry is necessary. A finite element method (FEM) is a good tool for the optimization. However, the computation time is an obstacle as there are many geometrical parameters to b...

This paper presents an original study on the generated torque ripples of phase commutation in the Four-Switch, Three-Phase Inverter (FSTPI) Brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive which is suitable for low cost applications. Analytic values of torque ripple and commutation duration are obtained for different operation conditions. Moreover, limitation on the speed range operation caused from splitti...

This paper addresses torque-ripple reduction in current-fed switched reluctance motors (SRMs). Ripple-free torque production in SRMs requires an accurate model that is often too complex for practical implementation. The algorithm proposed here combines the use of a simplified model with adaptation. Explicitly, it includes dynamic estimation of low harmonics of the combined unknown load torque a...

The generated torque ripple in switched reluctance motors (SRM) can be considered as one of the major disadvantages of the motor. It is mainly due to frequent switching of phases for rotation of the motor and changes of the air gap length between the rotor and stator teeth. It decreases the average developed torque, diminish the efficiency, causes noise and vibration in the motor. So, in order ...

The direct torque control (DTC) speed control scheme of an induction motor surpasses the vector control in the sense that it controls the torque directly and does not use transformations and current modulator. In the traditional direct torque control (DTC) of induction motor, the low order harmonic component of stator current is very large when the motor is running at low speed. It leads to hig...

The commutation process causes current ripple to be generated in the drive system of brushless DC (BLDC) motor. This, in turn, leads to output torque ripple. Mechanical vibration and acoustic noise are its influences which are undesirable phenomenon in some applications. A new method is presented in this paper which reduces torque ripple and commutation period in the entire range of motor speed...

A fuzzy-logic-based turn-off angle compensator for torque ripple reduction in a switched reluctance motor is proposed. The turn-off angle, as a complex function of motor speed and current, is automatically changed for a wide motor speed range to reduce torque ripple. Experimental results are presented that show ripple reduction when the turn-off angle compensator is used.

A new torque control strategy for brushless motors with minimum torque ripple and minimum copper losses while maintaining the phase currents under magnetic (or current) saturation is presented. The optimal control { a nonlinear map from desired torque and position to the motor's phase currents { is the closed form solution to a quadratic programming problem. Experimental results demonstrate vir...
