A short, monodisperse additive (octa(ethylene glycol) monophenyl ether) functions to suppress aggregation of thermally and chemically denatured lysozyme. Control studies with shorter and non-amphiphilic derivatives revealed that the amphiphilic structure is essential, and octa(ethylene glycol) is nearly the minimum chain length for amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol)s to stabilize proteins.
We have developed a simple and efficient approach for the synthesis of chemically converted graphene sheets via aryne cycloaddition under mild reaction conditions. The resulting highly functionalized and thermally stable aryne-modified graphene sheets can be well dispersed in various solvents.
Many biological materials are composed of fibrils arranged according to well-ordered three-dimensional patterns. These materials often show a strong anisotropy in their properties. An essential characteristic of biological structures is their hierarchical organization from the nanometer to the millimeter scale. Lobster cuticle is a good example of this and a suitable model for studying these pr...
Semi-crystalline oligomers are explored as functionalized thermoswitchable coatings for modification of biomaterials surface. Highly crystalline oligo(ε-caprolactone) (OCL) films prepared at the air–water interface by Langmuir technique, which consist tightly packed single crystals. Their morphology and melting temperature can be tuned chemical structure OCL end-groups (hydroxy or methacrylate)...
Abstract To add value to wastes from the coffee crop, this research physically and chemically characterized pulp waste an organic farm crop located in Santa Bárbara (Antioquia-Colombia), specifically analyzing whether or not material has promise for heavy metal removal wastewater, such as landfill leachate. The was thermally modified improve its physical chemical condition sorption capacities. ...
In the initial papers reporting the thermal instability of chemically bonded stationary phases on irradiation with a high-power neodymium laser, Raman scattering intensity in the region 2285 to 1130 cm was found to depend on the density of coverage of the silica matrix with alkyl ligands. Further research focused on the dependence of the growth of UV absorption in this region, on heating of the...
