This phenomenon is termed as ‘thermal...

In hybrid electrical vehicles (HEV) the battery, motor and inverter are the core elements of the electric drive train. In the inverter power semiconductors, usually packaged in a module, are used. To qualify such power modules for the use in HEV amongst others Power cycling and Thermal cycling tests have to be performed. These tests mainly ensure the reliability of the module regarding thermal ...

We present a test which is sufficient to disprove thermal equilibrium in observed contact binaries. The test is applied to a number of systems with good spectroscopic data. All of them are shown to be in thermal imbalance. Accordingly, many (possibly all) contact binaries evolve on a thermal time-scale, probably in thermal cycles as proposed by Lucy (1976) and Flannery (1976).

This paper reviews the accelerated thermal cycling test methods that are currently used by industry to characterize the interconnect reliability of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) ball grid array (BGA) and chip scale package (CSP) assemblies. Acceleration induced failure mechanisms varied from conventional surface mount (SM) failures for CSPs. Examples of unrealistic life projections for other ...

Adhesive resins for precious metals were prepared by adding an adhesion promoting monomer to MMA-PMMA/TBBO resin. Precious metal alloys bonded by the adhesive resin were thermocycled 0, 1,000, 2,000, or 4,000 times in water between 4 and 60 degrees C, and tensile bond strengths were measured. Debonded metal surfaces after the tensile test were analyzed based on an area of cohesive failure. Thre...

A probabilistic approach of the current thermal fatigue design of nuclear components is set up. It aims at incorporating all kinds of uncertainties that affect the thermal fatigue behaviour. This approach is based on the theory of structural reliability. Two dual approaches of reliability analysis for the thermal fatigue are defined, respectively, in the time domain and in the frequency domain....

Multi-scale model for response of the bi-material “thermostat,” consisting of a single unidirectional lamina of carbon/epoxy and an uncured layer of neat diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F (DGEBF) with curing agent, diethyltoluenediamine (DETDA), is developed in order to measure thermal strains during a prescribed, but arbitrary thermal history. Molecular modeling simulations provided the elastic ...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of thermal cycling on the surface texture of restorative materials. Disk-shaped specimens made of seven resin composites (Beautifil: BF; Esthet-X: EX; Filtek Supreme: FS; Inten-S: IS; Point 4: PT; Solare: SR; and Venus: VS) were finished with 1-microm alumina suspension, and then thermocycled between 4 and 60 degrees C in distilled water for ...

The shear bonding strengths of a veneering resin to polished, sandblasted, and retention bead-cast commercially pure titanium (cpTi) plates with and without alkaline treatment were measured before and after thermal cycling. The bonding strengths to polished cpTi with and without alkaline treatment decreased remarkably with thermal cycling (p<0.01). The bonding strength to sandblasted cpTi with ...

Temperature control is important for the steel making process. Knowledge of amount thermal energy stored in ladle allows better predictions temperature during This has a potential to improve quality steel. In this work, we present mathematical model heat transfer within production The can be used compute current, and also future, status ladle. simple solved efficiently. We results from numerica...
