Processing of complex signals in the hearing organ remains poorly understood. This paper aims to contribute to this topic by presenting investigations on the mechanical and neuronal response of the hearing organ of the tropical bushcricket species Mecopoda elongata to simple pure tone signals as well as to the conspecific song as a complex acoustic signal. The high-frequency hearing organ of bu...

The genus Kansua Uvarov was only known in East Asian, and is considered to approach Tettigonia Linnaeus or Glyphonotus Redtenbacher. After comparing male and female specimens of Kansua with other genera of the subfamily Tettigoniinae, we find that Kansua is very similar to Anatlanticus Bei-Bienko and Mongolodectes Bei-Bienko in pronotum, legs, and tegmen rather than Tettigonia and Glyphonotus. ...

Despite the morphological and acoustic similarities with the recently described Isophya nagyi Szövényi, Puskás & Orci, I. bucovinensissp. n. is characterized by a peculiar male calling song, with faster syllable repetition rate (160-220 syllables per minut...

Since the 1990ies a great number of Meconematinae mainly from Asia have been described (OTTE & NASKRECKI, 1997). Within this subfamily GOROCHOV (1993) revised, amongst others, the heterogeneous genus Xiphidiopsis REDTENBACHER 1891 and divided it in numerous new genera and subgenera. Two of them are relevant for the present paper: Kuzicus GOROCHOV 1993, based on K. suzukii (MATSUMURA & SHIRAKI 1...
