A 52-year-old man came to hospital with the chief complaint of backache for 4 months. The patient had had diabetes mellitus for 9 years. He had frequently traveled to northeastern Thailand. Four months prior to admission, he suffered from backache. The pain progressively increased in 2 months before admission with fever, weakness of both legs and difficult walking and urine voiding. Physical ex...

We present new results of Cassini’s T9 flyby with complementary observations from T18. Based on Cassini plasma spectrometer (CAPS) and Cassini magnetometer (MAG), compositional evidence shows the upstream flow for both T9 and T18 appears composed of light ions (H and H2 ), with external pressures 30 times lower than that for the earlier TA flyby where heavy ions dominated the magnetospheric pla...

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE An adequate supply of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC PUFA) promotes foetal health and development, whereas generally, trans fatty acids (tFA) are considered to negatively interfere with LC PUFA metabolism. Nevertheless, to date, limited data concerning separate trans C18:1, such as t9 and t11, are available for maternal and foetal blood. Therefore, in this study...

A well-characterized three-chain peptide [(Col1)2 X T9] from human type III collagen was a rich source of Ehrlich chromogen. The corresponding two-chain peptide [(Col1)2] was not, implying that the Ehrlich chromogen is a trifunctional cross-link. (Col1)2 X T9 also contained pyridinoline, which is not an Ehrlich chromogen. The 7S domain of type IV collagen also contained an Ehrlich chromogen.

We report a case of spinal stenosis with ossification of the thoracic ligamentum flavum in a 53-year-old man with achondroplasia. Neurological signs indicated flaccid paralysis below L1, and the patient was unable to walk. Ossification of the ligamentum flavum was observed at T4/5 and T9 to T12, compressing the thecal sac. Laminectomy of T9 to L1 was performed. At one-year follow-up, the patien...

The aim of this paper is to compare two virtual keyboards for people with cerebral palsy; many of these users have difficulty performing actions using their upper limbs due to large numbers of unwanted movements. The first is a classical QWERTY type keyboard, called Clavicom NG. The second is the K-Hermes proposed in this paper. K-Hermes is a reduced and monotape keyboard; its entry principles ...

A T9 ambiguous keyboard algorithm combined with context-sensitive word selection can reduce the decisions required to ‘type’ a word. This approach can benefit spelling brain-computer interfaces which typically have less than 100% accuracy and slow information transfer rates. We report on initial research in applying a modified context aware T9 predictive text algorithm to BCI spelling. To suppo...

IMPORTANCE In multiple sclerosis (MS), upper cervical cord gray matter (GM) atrophy correlates more strongly with disability than does brain or cord white matter (WM) atrophy. The corresponding relationships in the thoracic cord are unknown owing to technical difficulties in assessing GM and WM compartments by conventional magnetic resonance imaging techniques. OBJECTIVES To investigate the a...

NBXFO hybridoma cells produced both the membrane and secreted isoforms of macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF). Murine bone marrow cells stimulated by the secreted form of M-CSF (sM-CSF) became Mac1+, Mac2+, Mac3+, and F4/80+ macrophages that inhibited the growth of NBXFO cells, but not L1210 or P815 tumor cells. In cytotoxicity studies, M-CSF activated macrophages and freshly isolated ...
