background : animal models have been proven useful in elucidating the details of interaction between pathogenic bacteria and their human hosts, in addition to assessing the efficacy of therapeutic compounds and vaccines. in this study, we investigate the colonization of helicobacter pylori ( h. pylori ) in experimentally-infected guinea pigs over a six-month period. materials and methods: a bac...
In 2010, we surveyed 176 clinical laboratories in Pennsylvania regarding stool specimen testing practices for enteropathogens, including Campylobacter spp. Most (96.3%) routinely test for Campylobacter spp. In 17 (15.7%), a stool antigen test is the sole method for diagnosis. We recommend that laboratory practice guidelines for Campylobacter spp. testing be developed.
Evidences supporting the association between H. pylori infection and chronic cholecystitis could be found by using direct culture or staining of H. pylori in gallbladder tissues as well as indirect techniques. Stool antigen test has been widely used due to its noninvasive nature. Various stool antigen tests were developed to detect H. pylori using an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) based on monoclonal...
OBJECTIVE Highly sensitive guaiac-based faecal occult blood (Hemoccult SENSA) and Helicobacter pylori stool antigen testing might help detect upper gastrointestinal lesions when appended to a colorectal cancer screening programme with faecal immunochemical testing. We evaluated the diagnostic accuracies of two stool tests in detecting upper gastrointestinal lesions. DESIGN Cross-sectional des...
An evaluation of a rapid test for the presence of Helicobacter pylori from stool specimens looking for antigen proceeded for a period of 8 months from March to November 2011. A total of 212 stool samples were collected from 2 different hospitals in Holy Makkah City. Twenty six patients were positive for H. pylori by the ELISA test which was used as the gold standard. The rapid test when compare...
The diagnosis of amebiasis by microscopic identification of the parasite in stool is insensitive and unable to distinguish the invasive parasite Entamoeba histolytica from the commensal parasite E. dispar. In this study, we have tested a PCR technique for the detection of E. histolytica and compared it with isoenzyme analysis and the TechLab E. histolytica-specific antigen detection test. The n...
conclusions the most important factor in childhood acute gastroenteritis in east anatolia is the rotavirus. rotavirus and adenovirus antigens should be routinely investigated as a factor in fresh stool samples for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of gastroenteritis in children in the winter and autumn months. patients and methods the records of stool sample analyses for 1154 patients admitt...
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Invasive and non-invasive techniques are used to diagnose H. pylori infection. Some factors influence the choice of a diagnostic test, such as the sensitivity and specificity of the tests, the clinical circumstances and the cost-effectiveness of the testing strategy. The aim of this study was to reveal the relationship between different H. pylori infection diagnosis me...
A new rapid lateral flow fecal antigen detection test for Cryptosporidium was evaluated using diarrheal stool samples from a cohort of children in Bangladesh. The test had a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 94% when compared with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay antigen detection.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study is to compare validity of 5 diagnostic tests of helicobacter pylori with each other: stool antigen test, urea breath test (UBT), rapid urease test (RUT), serology and histology. METHODS A total of 94 patients who had indication of endoscopy entered the study. All of the 5 tests were performed for each patient. When the results of at least 2 tests were posi...
