The SLEUTH model (slope, landuse, exclusion, urban extent, transportation and hillshade), formerly called the Clarke Cellular Automaton Urban Growth Model, was developed for and tested on various cities in North America, including Washington, DC, and San Francisco. In contrast, this research calibrated the SLEUTH model for two European cities, the Portuguese metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Por...

A global, model-independent search for high-pT exotic phenomena is presented using 927 pb of CDF II data. The search algorithms employed in this analysis are Vista and Sleuth. These proceedings focus on Vista, including a description of the method and a summary of results. PACS. 12.60.-i Models beyond the standard model

Mail-Sleuth is a personal productivity tool that allows individuals to manage email and visualize its contents using line diagrams. Based on earlier work on the Conceptual Email Manager (Cem), a major hypothesis of Mail-Sleuth is that novices to Formal Concept Analysis can read a lattice diagram. Since there is no empirical evidence for this in the Formal Concept Analysis literature this paper ...

These proceedings describe Sleuth, a quasi-model-independent search strategy targeting new electroweak scale physics, and its application to 927 pb of CDF II data. Exclusive final states are analyzed for an excess of data beyond the Standard Model prediction at large summed scalar transverse momentum ( P pT ). This analysis of highP pT data represents one of the most encompassing searches so fa...

The need for good modelling tools to simulate urban growth are a planning tool necessary in today’s age of widespread urban growth and the natural and human disasters that quickly follow. The SLEUTH urban growth model is a CA-based urban change model that simulates urban growth according to a calibrated set of parameters. The following work compares two methods of calibration. The first, “Brute...

How can we search for new physics when we only vaguely know what it should look like? How can we perform an unbiased yet data-driven search? If we see apparently anomalous events in our data, how can we quantify their “interestingness” a posteriori? We present an analysis strategy (sleuth) that simultaneously addresses each of these questions, and we demonstrate its application to over thirty e...

We apply a quasi-model-independent strategy ("Sleuth") to search for new high p(T) physics in approximately 100 pb(-1) of pp collisions at square root of (s) = 1.8 TeV collected by the D0 experiment during 1992-1996 at the Fermilab Tevatron. We systematically analyze many exclusive final states and demonstrate sensitivity to a variety of models predicting new phenomena at the electroweak scale....
