PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between rotational axes of femur and tibia with the use of Linker. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was carried out from August 2009 to February 2010 on 54 patients (106 knees), who were diagnosed with simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty. With the use of postoperative computed tomography scans, it was investigated...

We describe here various surgical options to obtain a correct rotational alignment of femoral component in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The correct rotational alignment is the key point to obtain a rectangular balanced flexion gap as well to have a good patellar tracking. For that reason, rotation alignment largely affects postoperative kinematic results particularly during flexion.

The present study evaluated the interchangeability of prosthetic components for external hexagon implants by measuring the precision of the implant/abutment (I/A) interface with scanning electron microscopy. Ten implants for each of three brands (SIN, Conexão, Neodent) were tested with their respective abutments (milled CoCr collar rotational and non-rotational) and another of an alternative ma...

BACKGROUND Computer navigation systems generally establish the rotational alignment axis of the femoral component on the basis of user-defined anatomic landmarks. However, navigation systems can also record knee kinematics and average alignment axes established with multiple techniques. We hypothesized that establishing femoral rotational alignment with the use of kinematic techniques is more a...

OBJECTIVES There remains a lack of data on the reliability of methods to estimate tibial coverage achieved during total knee replacement. In order to address this gap, the intra- and interobserver reliability of a three-dimensional (3D) digital templating method was assessed with one symmetric and one asymmetric prosthesis design. METHODS A total of 120 template procedures were performed acco...

This paper presents a new method for warping of diffusion tensor fields. The proper reorientation of a tensor field requires knowledge of the underlying fiber orientation, which is not known a priori. Accordingly, a probabilistic representation of the fiber direction is adopted and used in a Procrustean estimation of the rotational component of the warping field. The estimated rotational compon...

The aim of the study was to examine the effects of rotational component alignment on outcome after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with a minimum follow-up of 5 years. For this study, 96 patients were available for follow-up at a mean of 5.7 years after TKA. Computed tomography scans were available in 55 patients. Outcome (Oxford Knee Score [KSS], Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score [KOO...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Poor outcomes have been linked to errors in rotational alignment of total knee arthroplasty components. The aims of this study were to determine the correlation between rotational alignment and outcome, to review the success of revision for malrotated total knee arthroplasty, and to determine whether evidence-based guidelines for malrotated total knee arthroplasty can be ...

We observe the rotational Doppler shift of an orbital angular momentum (OAM)-carrying white-light beam after it is backscattered from a rotating object. Unlike the well known linear shift, this rotational shift is independent of the optical frequency, and hence each spectral component of the scattered light is shifted by the same value. Consequently, even a white-light source can give rise to a...
