With the integration of IT with business operations and management, organizations are vulnerable to a myriad of threats ranging from computer viruses to natural disasters and deliberate acts of sabotage. Consequently, IT disaster recovery has emerged as a critical organizational issue. This paper proposes an application portfolio-based framework for IT disaster recovery planning based on the ro...

A Bang-Bang Clock-Data Recovery (CDR) for 10 Gb/s optical transmission systems is presented. A direct modulated architecture is used for the design. Its loop characteristics can be derived using an analogy to 61 theory. The circuit was produced and measured in a commercial 0.25μm BiCMOS technology with a transition frequency fT=70 GHz.

There is considerable federal interest in disaster resilience as a mechanism for mitigating the impacts to local communities, yet the identification of metrics and standards for measuring resilience remain a challenge. This paper provides a methodology and a set of indicators for measuring baseline characteristics of communities that foster resilience. By establishing baseline conditions, it be...

Information technology plays a pivotal role in defining the success of organizations. Given its importance, one might assume that modern organizations take steps to ensure the recovery of IT services following disasters. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case. To understand the variation in degree of IT disaster recovery planning, this research focused on those responsible for managing IT resou...

A solution to the problem of integrating a recovering site inLo a distributed database system is presented. The basic idea used for the correct recovery is to maintain a consistent view of the status (up or down) of all sites. This view need not be the exact current status of the sites. but is the status as perceived by other sites. The session number is used to represent the actual state of a ...

The ethical implications of business continuity/disaster recovery planning, and technology is rarely a topic discussed within the academic or practitioner literature. However, ethical decisions permeate such business continuity and disaster recovery areas as data custody, privacy, and security issues involved in the control and possession of business continuity data. In this paper, a discussion...

We present an approach to personal disaster recovery, e.g. after a hard-disk crash, based not on an explicitly ex-ante defined recovery plan with a rigid backup regime, but rather on naturally accumulated and distributed sources of personal data, such as e-mails and their attachments. We aim to restore as much data as possible, and to provide means to organise it in a meaningful folder structur...

treatment of spinal cord injury by exogenous cells has brought both successful and unsuccessful results. olfactory ensheathing cells and schwann cells have been widely used for transplantation purposes. in this study, we investigated the effects of these cells on contused spinal cord by introducing cells into subarachnoid space. fifty thousand schwann cells or olfactory ensheathing cells or a m...

different recovery mechanisms are activated during the production from reservoirs. wells sometimes are kept with the injection. therefore the evaluation of injection indices depended on material injection, seems to be necessary. this study is going to determine the drive indices for a reservoir by making a model using eclipse. the model consists a gas cap and aquifer, in which there is an injec...

efforts to enhance oil recovery through wettability alteration by nanoparticles have been attracted inrecent years. however, many basic questions have been ambiguous up until now. nanoparticlespenetrate into pore volume of porous media, stick on the core surface, and by creating homogeneouswater-wet area, cause to alter wettability. this work introduces the new concept of adding znonanoparticle...
