Constructing a propagation map from set of scattered measurements finds important applications in many areas, such as localization, spectrum monitoring and management. Classical interpolation-type methods have poor performance regions with very sparse measurements. Recent advance matrix completion has the potential to reconstruct measurements, but spatial resolution is limited. This paper propo...

A new complex Jacobi iterative technique adapted for the solution of three-dimensional (3D) wide-angle (WA) beam propagation is presented. The beam propagation equation for analysis of optical propagation in waveguide structures is based on a novel modified Padé(1,1) approximant operator, which gives evanescent waves the desired damping. The resulting approach allows more accurate approximation...

In this paper, ultrasonic wave propagation in three phases (3P) of composite materials was investigated. The simulation was conducted by PZFlex analysis code, a time domain finite element program. The reflection and transmission characteristics with different shapes of middle layer between glass fiber and epoxy resin are investigated in order to understand basic ultrasonic behavior of energy di...

Power packet is a unit of electric power transferred by a power pulse with an information tag. In Shannon’s information theory, messages are represented by symbol sequences in a digitized manner. Referring to this formulation, we define symbols in power packetization as a minimum unit of power transferred by a tagged pulse. Here, power is digitized and quantized. In this paper, we consider pack...

We consider the problem of propagating an ensemble of solutions and its characterization in terms of its mean and covariance matrix. We propose differential equations that lead to a continuous matrix factorization of the ensemble into a generalized singular value decomposition (SVD). The continuous factorization is applied to ensemble propagation under periodic rescaling (ensemble breeding) and...

A formula is given for the propagation of errors during matrix inversion. An explicit calculation for a 2 × 2 matrix using both the formula and a Monte Carlo calculation are compared. A prescription is given to determine when a matrix with uncertain elements is sufficiently nonsingular for the calculation of the covariances of the inverted matrix elements to be reliable.

Methods based on propagation of the one-body reduced density-matrix hold much promise for the simulation of correlated many-electron dynamics far from equilibrium, but difficulties with finding good approximations for the interaction term in its equation of motion have so far impeded their application. These difficulties include the violation of fundamental physical principles such as energy co...

Spectral graph theory gives an algebraical approach to analyze the dynamics of a network by using the matrix that represents the network structure. However, it is not easy for social networks to apply the spectral graph theory because the matrix elements cannot be given exactly to represent the structure of a social network. The matrix element should be set on the basis of the relationship betw...
