The crystal structure of the title Schiff base complex is obtained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The solid state structure determination reveals that the coordination geometry around the copper(II) center istetrahedrally distorted square-planar. The crystal packing shows one dimensional infinite chains which arisesfrom the intermolecular interaction and stabilize the crystal packing.

A two-phase DLSM model is proposed to model transverse isotropic materials, in which the layer structure of the anisotropic materials is explicitly represented. Equations are derived to obtain elastic parameters of the two phase model from the elastic modules in parallel to the bedding planes and that in normal direction of the bedding planes. Then, the mechanical properties of the two-phase DL...

Reservoir shale has the characteristics of bedding planes, strong anisotropy, and imbibition ability under ultralow water saturation, which an important impact on wellbore stability horizontal wells. Therefore, physical chemical properties reservoir were analyzed, a mechanics model was established considering elasticity strength anisotropy. The analyzed anisotropy parameters formation condition...

Two hundred seventy-three crossbred steer calves were fed until slaughter (November through May, 189 days) in either semi-confinement (partial overhead shelter, 88 sq. ft. per steer, concrete pen surface) or conventional open lots (windbreak, 448 sq. ft. per steer, dirt surface with mound). Within each housing system, cattle were provided with no bedding or bedding in the form of oat straw or s...

Laboratory facilities use many varieties of contact bedding, including wood chips, paper products, and corncob, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Corncob bedding, for example, is often used because of its high absorbency, ability to minimize detectable ammonia, and low cost. However, observations that mice eat the corncob lead to concerns that its use can interfere with dietary st...

Despite dairy farmers’ awareness of the importance of correct bedding for the health and comfort of their cows, they are often frugal with respect to these bedding materials in order to reduce costs. In addition, farmers are currently dependent on the availability and price fluctuations of traditional bedding materials. For these reasons, the scientific literature as well as the trade press poi...

There is growing appreciation that estrogen signaling pathways can be modulated by naturally occurring environmental compounds such as phytoestrogens and the more recently discovered xenoestrogens. Many researchers studying the effects of estrogens on brain function or behavior in animal models choose to use phytoestrogen-free food for this reason. Corncob bedding is commonly used in animal fac...

Granite fines, sand, rice hulls, long wheat straw, and wood shavings were compared as bedding for 60 female dairy calves. Growth, health, stress indices, and behavior of newly born calves, along with physical characteristics and bacterial counts of bedding, were evaluated for 42 d during August to October, 2002. Overall average daily gain and dry matter intake of calves did not differ due to be...

The major objective of this study was to contrast the ability of 4 commonly utilized bedding materials to promote growth of environmental bacteria under controlled conditions. A second objective was to describe the relationship between bacterial growth and specific biochemical or nutritional properties of these bedding materials. Unused samples of clean sand (CS; n = 20), recycled sand (RS; n =...

OBJECTIVE The objectives of the study were to assess the effect of cacao bean husk as bedding material in free-stall barn on the behavior, productivity, and udder health of dairy cattle, and on the ammonia concentrations in the barn. METHODS Four different stall surfaces (no bedding, cacao bean husk, sawdust, and chopped wheat straw) were each continuously tested for a period of 1 week to det...
