A new subporphyrin was synthesized for use as a molecular sensitizer in electrochemical and dye-sensitized photoelectrochemical water oxidation. A photoelectrochemical cell with a TiO2 electrode modified with the sensitizer and a molecular water oxidation catalyst generated higher photocurrent than reference cells that have electrodes modified with either the photosensitizer or the catalyst und...
As an alternative to the photoelectrochemical water splitting for use in the fuel cells used to generate electrical power, this study set out to develop a solar energy rechargeable battery system based on photoelectrochemical water oxidation. We refer to this design as a "solar water battery". The solar water battery integrates a photoelectrochemical cell and battery into a single device. It us...
A robust and specific photoelectrochemical approach for cell surface carbohydrates evaluation was achieved firstly based on carboxylic-group-containing free-base-porphyrin bridged 3-aminophenylboronic acid and a titania biosensing interface.
CuInS(2) nanorod array structures are synthesized via a template-free and non-vacuum route for the first time. The obtained CuInS(2) thin films show promising conversion efficiency in a two-electrode photoelectrochemical cell.
Electrochemical synthesis of CdS/ZnO nanotube arrays with excellent photoelectrochemical properties.
A facile electrochemical method was developed to synthesize CdS/ZnO nanotube arrays. Implemented as the photoanode in a photoelectrochemical cell, the CdS/ZnO nanotube arrays exhibited a photocurrent as high as 10.64 mA cm(-2).
We report the photoelectrochemical (PEC) oxidation of methanol on a rationally designed graphene-TiO2 nanorod array (G-TNR) photoanode. A PEC methanol fuel cell was constructed by coupling the G-TNR photoanode with a cathode. This study raises a conceptual fuel cell that realizes the synergistic energy conversion of chemical energy and solar energy.
With a new photoelectrochemical cell we perform operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy on SrTaO x N y during photocatalytic solar water splitting. Operando characterisation proves to be an invaluable tool for the design and discovery of novel materials.
The production of hydrogen through water splitting in a photoelectrochemical cell suffers from an overpotential that limits the efficiencies. In addition, hydrogen-peroxide formation is identified as a competing process affecting the oxidative stability of photoelectrodes. We impose spin-selectivity by coating the anode with chiral organic semiconductors from helically aggregated dyes as sensit...
Photoelectrochemical cells are used to split hydrogen and oxygen from water molecules to generate chemical fuels to satisfy our ever-increasing energy demands. However, it is a major challenge to design efficient catalysts to use in the photoelectochemical process. Recently, research has focused on carbon-based catalysts, as they are nonprecious and environmentally benign. Interesting advances ...
