Using first-principles calculations, we chart the chemical space of 3d transition metal-based NaSICON phosphates with formula NaxMM′(PO4)3 (with M and M′ = Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co Ni). Novel compositions were revealed.

Mg²⁺ shares a distinctive relationship with RNA, playing important and specific roles in the folding and function of essentially all large RNAs. Here we use theory and experiment to evaluate Fe²⁺ in the absence of free oxygen as a replacement for Mg²⁺ in RNA folding and catalysis. We describe both quantum mechanical calculations and experiments that suggest that the roles of Mg²⁺ in RNA folding...

Ion-transport paths: combined modeling and neutron diffraction studies provide atomic-scale insights into Li(2)FeP(2)O(7), a material proposed for a new lithium-battery cathode with reversible electrode operation at the highest voltage of all known Fe-based phosphates. The results indicate that Li(+) ions are transported rapidly through a 2D network along the paths shown in green in the picture.

The provision of efficient electron and ion transport is a critical issue in an exciting new group of materials based on lithium metal phosphates that are important as cathodes for lithium-ion batteries. Much interest centres on olivine-type LiFePO(4), the most prominent member of this family. Whereas the one-dimensional lithium-ion mobility in this framework is high, the electronically insulat...

Iron is an essential metal but can be toxic in excess. While several homeostatic mechanisms prevent oxygen-dependent killing promoted by Fe(II), little is known about how cells cope with Fe(III), which kills by oxygen-independent means. Several Gram-negative bacterial species harbour a regulatory system - termed PmrA/PmrB - that is activated by and required for resistance to Fe(III). We now rep...

The aim of this study is to elucidate the mechanism micropollutants’ removal in drinking water by application catalytic ozonation, using transition metals as appropriate catalysts. For that purpose, degradation 500 ?g/L p-chlorobenzoic acid (p-CBA) and benzotriazole with addition 2 mg/L ozone presence 1 Co(II) or Fe(II) at pH 7.8 were examined. It was found distilled experiments, both metal ion...

in order to study the effect of synorhizobium meliloti on growth and nutrients uptake of sesame, a greenhouse test was carried out. the first isolates investigated in iaa and siderophore producing and their ability in solubilizing inorganic phosphates. the results showed that all of isolates were able to produce auxin with different among. the maximum amount of iaa production was 59.5 g ml-1 th...

Neodymium-iron-boron alloy, Nd2Fe14B, is used as a material for magnets. Neodymium one of the valuable and expensive rare earth elements often recovered to reduce costs environmental impact. Recently, method recovering neodymium phosphate from mixed solutions was reported. This very useful because main component ores phosphates, there are well-established methods refining earths phosphates. stu...
