Alnus glutinosa, Fraxinus excelsior and Papaver rhoeas have long been used in folkloric medicine for the treatment of various ailments. As part of our continuing screening of plant extracts for activities, the extracts of A. glutinosa, F. excelsior and P. rhoeas have been screened for their antioxidant and antibacterial activities, as well as their general toxicity towards brine shrimps. Among ...

In this research, a comparative analysis was carried out to characterize the content of phenolics and biological activities whole plant Papaver rhoeas L. (P. rhoeas) from different geographical regions Morocco, as well determine synergistic antimicrobial antioxidant effects all parts P. rhoeas. The determination total polyphenol (TPC), flavonoid (TFC), anthocyanin (TA) in extracts plants three ...

The electronic form of this issue, available as of September 11, 2007, at www.plantphysiol.org, is considered the journal of record. On the Cover: Many plants use self-incompatibility (SI) to reject genetically identical (‘‘self’’) pollen to prevent inbreeding. In Papaver rhoeas (the field poppy), SI triggers a Ca-dependent signaling network in incompatible pollen, involving several targets, in...

We investigated the diversity of mechanisms conferring resistance to herbicides inhibiting acetolactate synthase (ALS) in corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas L.) and the processes underlying the selection for resistance. Six mutant ALS alleles, Arg₁₉₇, His₁₉₇, Leu₁₉₇, Ser₁₉₇, Thr₁₉₇ and Leu₅₇₄ were identified in five Italian populations. Different alleles were found in a same population or a same plant....

introduction: depression is one of the most frequent psychiatric disorders in the world with occurs with higher incidence in women. in the present study, the effect of water-alcoholic extract of papaver rhoeas l. on forced swimming test (fst) in swiss-webster mice were examined. methods: we used swiss-webster mice (20-25 g) to execute fst on them. the plant extract (1, 10, 30, and 100 mg/kg) wa...

Corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas), the most problematic broadleaf weed in winter cereals in Southern Europe, has developed resistance to the widely-used herbicide, 2,4-D. The first reported resistance mechanism in this species to 2,4-D was reduced translocation from treated leaves to the rest of the plant. However, the presence of other non-target site resistance (NTSR) mechanisms has not been invest...

Papaver rhoeas biotypes displaying multiple herbicide resistance to ALS inhibitors and synthetic auxin herbicides (SAH) are spreading across Europe. In Spain, enhanced metabolism imazamox was confirmed in one population, while cytochrome-P450 (P450) based 2,4-D another two. The objectives of this research were further confirm the presence P450 mediated and, if so, whether a putative common is r...
