Fish species possess many specific characteristics that support their use in ecotoxicology. Widely used in clinical research, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) can reasonably be exploited as relevant target cells in the assessment of environmental chemical toxicity. The current article focuses on the methods necessary to isolate, characterize, and culture fish PBMCs. These procedures w...
Fish authentication is a major concern not only for the prevention of commercial fraud, but also for the assessment of safety risks deriving from the undeclared introduction of potentially dangerous toxic or allergenic substances or environmentally damaging fish where endangered species are involved. Moreover, food authentication might affect the diet of certain groups of consumers, such as fol...
Biochemical Changes in Blood of Freshwater Catfish Heteropneustes fossilis Exposed to Microcystin-LR
Present study reveals the effects of microcystin-LR (2.5 μg/25g bw) toxins on certain biochemical parameters in blood of H. fossilis. In treated fish serum bilirubin, serum cholesterol, serum creatinine and serum urea levels are increased. Serum protein content of treated fish is decreased. Present study suggests that MCLR is toxic to fresh water catfish Heteropneustes fossilis.
We investigated aquaculture production of Asian tiger shrimp, whiteleg shrimp, giant river prawn, tilapia, and pangasius catfish in Bangladesh, China, Thailand, and Vietnam by using life cycle assessments (LCAs), with the purpose of evaluating the comparative eco-efficiency of producing different aquatic food products. Our starting hypothesis was that different production systems are associated...
In this study, the lipid properties of tra catfish flesh meat (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) during refrigerator storage as well oil extracted from were investigated. The quality samples was maintained, with content and peroxide value falling within acceptable range after 15 days storage. yield using isopropanol:hexane at a ratio 2:3 higher (56.2%) than that ethanol:hexane different ratio. Isopr...
Effects of guava (Psidium guajava L.) and bhumi amla (Phyllanthus amarus Chum et Thonn) on haematology thermal stress mitigation striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) were investigated. In a 42-day trial, fish administered 4 diets as control (without extract), 0.2% P. (Pg0.2), 0.5% (Pa0.5), mixture Pg0.2 Pa0.5 (Mix). Fish then subjected to temperatures 27°C, 31°C, 35°C for another 42 da...
Catfish (Siluriformes) are important species for aquaculture worldwide, with an annual production in 2018 of ca. 6 million t. This review focuses on reassessing larval development, first feeding, and early rearing practices the most farmed catfish species, along some candidate diversification: Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Pangasiidae), Clarias gariepinus (Clariidae), Ictalurus punctatus (Ictalu...
In this study, oil was extracted from the liver and visceral fat of Patin (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) and refined. The yield of oil after refining was 49.98%. The major yield loss (34.20%) happened during the degumming procedure. Fatty acids found in the crude and refined oil were C12:0, C14:0, C14:1, C16:0, C16:1, C18:0, C18:1, C18:2, C18:3, C18:4, C20:0, C20:1, C20:4, C20:5, and C22:6. The ...
