the genus onobrychis is subdivided into two subgenera: onobrychis and sisyrosema. phylogenetic relationships of 19 species of onobrychis (fabaceae: tribe hedysareae) and one representative each of genera eversmannia and ebenus were estimated from dna sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (its) region. parsimony analysis of the its region formed a dendrogram with strong bootstrap support ...
In this study, the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of Vicia villosa, Trifolium ochroleucum and Onobrychis altissima samples were investigated. For this purpose, plant extracts were tested against 3 fungus, 4 Gr(-) and 3 Gr(+) bacteria; additionally the glutathione (GSH) level and total phenolic content were measered spectrophtometrically and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was done by...
Galli-Galli disease is a rare genodermatosis currently regarded as an acantholytic variant of Dowling-Degos disease. The 2 diseases have the same clinical features: reticular hyperpigmented macules in the great skin folds, erythematous scaly papules and plaques, comedo-like lesions, and pitted perioral scars, and the only differentiating characteristic is the histological finding of acantholysi...
Thirteen adult indigenous chickens from Oodi, Kgatleng district, Botswana, were examined for helminth parasites. Two species of nematodes, Ascaridia galli and Heterakis gallinarum, and species of the cestode genus Raillietina, were recovered. A. galli and H. gallinarum were the most commonly seen parasites. The nematode A. galli occurred concurrently with Raillietina spp.
Recovery of overexploited marine populations has been slow, and most remain below target biomass levels. A key question is whether this is due to insufficient reductions in harvest rates or the erosion of population resilience. Using a global meta-analysis of overfished stocks, we find that resilience of those stocks subjected to moderate levels of overfishing is enhanced, not compromised, offe...
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Molecular experiments suggest that the regulation of the biosynthesis of condensed tannin (CT) is sensitive to the presence of plant enemies. The enemy-specific response of CT concentrations to simulated attacks by pathogenic fungi, bacteria or herbivores was studied in Onobrychis viciifolia grown at four levels of nutrient availability. It was hypothesized that CT concentra...
The effect of sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) hay consumption on the pathophysiology and local cellular responses of growing lambs during infection with Trichostrongylus colubriformis was investigated. Thirty-two lambs, 16 weeks of age, were allocated to 1 of 4 treatment groups (n=8) that were offered either grass (G) or sainfoin (S) hay while concurrently either infected (+), or not (-) with ...
