We argue that contrary to recent suggestions, nonextensive statistical mechanics has no relevance for inhomogeneous systems of particles interacting by short-range potentials. We show that these systems are perfectly well described by the usual Boltzmann-Gibbs statistical mechanics.
Based on the Tsallis entropy, the nonextensive thermodynamic properties are studied as a qdeformation of classical statistical results using only probabilistic methods and straightforward calculations. It is shown that the constant in the Tsallis entropy depends on the deformation parameter and must be redefined to recover the usual thermodynamic relations. The notions of variance and covarianc...
This paper introduces a new hybrid approach for learning systems that builds on the theory of nonextensive statistical mechanics. The proposed learning scheme uses only the sign of the gradient, and combines adaptive stepsize local searches with global search steps that make use of an annealing schedule inspired from nonextensive statistics, as proposed by Tsallis. The performance of the hybrid...
The Boltzmann-Gibbs statistical mechanics and the standard thermodynamics are very useful in the discussion of extensive systems. However, they are not good to study situations where nonextensive e ects occur, for instance, systems involving long-range interactions (e. g., d = 3 gravitation)[1, 2], long-range microscopic memory[3], and systems with a relevant (multi)fractal-like structure. On t...
Recently, Gross claims that Boltzmann entropy S = k lnW is valid for any system at equilibrium, so that Tsallis entropy is useless in this case. I comment on some arguments forwarded to reach this conclusion and argue that the additive energy formalism of nonextensive statistics is not appropriate for the fundamental study of the theory for nonadditive systems. Despite its centennial successes in describing physical systems at thermal equilibrium, Boltzmann–Gibbs (BG) statistical mechanics have exhibited, the last several decades, flaws addressing out-of-equilibrium dynamics of many nonlinear complex systems. In such circumstances, it has been shown that an appropriate generalization BG theory, known as nonextensive and based on nonadditive entropies,...
We discuss the generalized von Neumann (Tsallis) entropy and the generalized Fisher information (GFI) in nonextensive quantum systems, by using the interpolation approximation (IA) which has been shown to yield good results for the quantal distributions within O(q − 1) and in highand lowtemperature limits, q being the entropic index [H. Hasegawa, Phys. Rev. E 80 (2009) 011126]. Three types of G...
