A simple and efficient synthetic protocol has been developed for the synthesis of 3-substituted-2H-1,4-benzothiazines by using a novel sulfonic acid functionalized nano-γ-Al2O3 catalyst, devoid of corrosive acidic, and basic reagents. The developed method has the advantages of good to excellent yields, short reaction times, operational simplicity, and a recyclable catalyst. The catalyst can be ...

Aluminium oxide (Al2O3), commonly known as alumina, is a widespread naturally occurring compound that has a broad range of industrial applications. Besides its use as a pigment or abrasive, alumina also plays a vital role as catalyst support for desulfurization or hydrogenation reactions. In the latter case, the active phase on the catalyst often consists of nickel metal nanoparticles. The inte...

The oxidation of toluene in air was investigated using a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) combined with a Pd/Al2O3 catalyst. When using only plasma, rather low selectivity toward CO2 was obtained: 32-35%. By filling the DBD reactor with Pd/Al2O3 catalyst the CO2 selectivity was significantly enhanced (80-90%), however, a large amount of toluene was desorbed from the catalyst when the discharg...

Hydrogenation of benzoic acid using monoand bimetallic catalyst of Ru, Pd, Co, and Re yielded different products. It was observed that 5% Ru/C was an active catalyst for hydrogenation of both aromatic ring and carboxylic group, while Pd/C catalyst hydrogenated only aromatic ring. Ru-Sn/Al2O3 is a chemoselective catalyst for hydrogenation of –COOH group of benzoic acid.

In this work we report the application of a recently developed experimental protocol using Pulsed Field Gradient (PFG) Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques to simultaneously assess bulk pore and surface diffusion coefficients in liquid saturated porous catalysts. This method has been developed to study solvent effects on the diffusion of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) in mesoporous 1 wt% Pd/A...

Developing the high-efficient and green synthetic method for chiral amino alcohols is an intriguing target. We have developed the Mg(2+)-doped Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst for hydrogenation of L-phenylalanine methyl ester to chiral L-phenylalaninol without racemization. The effect of different L-phenylalanine esters on this title reaction was studied, verifying that Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 is an excellent cataly...

In this study, the partial oxidation of iso-octane over Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 and Ni/β”Al2O3 catalysts was investigated. The results indicated that Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 is more active than Ni/β”-Al2O3. The partial oxidation products are mainly H2 and CO for Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 with hydrogen selectivity up to 85%. The H2/CO ratio is in the range of 1.3-2.0 depending on the operating temperature. It was n...

In our former work [Catal. Today 174 (2011) 127], 12 heterogeneous catalysts were screened for CO oxidation, and Au-ZnO/Al2O3 was chosen and optimized in terms of weight loading of Au and ZnO. The present study follows on to consider the impact of process parameters (catalyst preparation and reaction conditions), in conjunction with catalyst composition (weight loading of Au and ZnO, and total ...

Rate enhancement of the selective oxidation of hexoses was achieved on an ethynylpyridine (EPy)-functionalized Pt/Al2O3 catalyst. Host-guest interaction between the EPy ligand and a hexose sugar reactant produced a complex with induced chirality on the catalyst surface.

The work focuses on evaluating wet air oxidation and catalytic wet air oxidation technique to degrade refinery spent caustics (original COD is 250,781 mg/L) in a milder operation conditions (150-200 ̊C, 0.2-2.5MPa). The results show that: in non-catalyst WAO, the highest COD degradation conversion could reach about 75% when 200 ̊C, 2MPa oxygen and 300rpm were used. At every temperature, the react...
