در ابتدا لازم است به این موضوع اشاره کنیم که برای مطالعه ی یک مدل هندسی از ستون فقرات انسان، باید یک حدمینیمم از یک تابع با مقدار حقیقی که روی یک ضرب از گروههای متعامد ویژه تعریف شده‎‎‏، پیدا کنیم. برای نتیجه گرفتن از ساختار گروه لی آن، از روش نیوتن روی این خمینه استفاده می کنیم.
