The etiology of sporadic cardiac myxomas remains elusive. The tendency for these lesions to recur following resection, their immunopathological characteristics, along with their histological and molecular profile, may implicate the presence of an infective agent in this type of tumor. In this study, we investigated the presence of herpes simplex virus (HSV) DNA in a cohort of cardiac myxomas in...

BACKGROUND Myxomas are the most common primary heart tumors and are closely associated with embolic events. Cardiac myxomas typically arise from the interatrial septum at the border of the fossa ovalis in the left atrium. Any other location is considered atypical. Embolism, one of the complications of myxoma, is associated with high morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to investig...

carney’s complex is a rare autosomal dominantly inherited multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome that involves spotty skin pigmentations, recurrent cardiac myxomas, endocrine hyperactivity, pituitary adenomas, peripheral nerve tumors, testicular tumors, and ovarian lesions. we present a case of sudden cardiac death in a 40 year old female with a history of carney’s complex with recurrent cardiac...

Myxomas are rare neoplasms of mesenchymal origin. Cases of conjunctival, corneal, and orbital myxomas have been reported in the literature; however, to the best of our knowledge, there is no report of a lacrimal gland myxoma. We report a case of an orbital myxoma involving the lacrimal gland and its management.

Atrial myxomas are the most common primary cardiac tumors. Patients with left atrial myxomas generally present with mechanical obstruction of blood flow, systemic embolization, and constitutional symptoms. We present a case of an unusually large left atrial myxoma discovered incidentally in a patient with longstanding dyspnea being managed as bronchial asthma.

No cardiological signs or symptoms were seen in three patients with left atrial myxomas. The diagnosis was established by cross sectional echocardiography. In two patients this investigation was performed to exclude a cardiac source of systemic emboli. The third patient had constitutional signs only. All three had raised erythrocyte sedimentation rates and C reactive protein concentrations. In ...

We report a case of left ventricular myxoma metastasizing to blood vessels of extremities and causing cutaneous ulceration. Most of left ventricular myxomas are symptomatic (92.7%). Systemic embolism is the most common manifestation (50%) and often leads to death. The propensity of cardiac myxomas to embolize is thought to be related to tumor morphology, with friable and gelatinous myxomas bein...

Introduction: Primary tumors of the heart are a rare finding, and the most common benign tumors are cardiac myxomas, accounting for up to 80% of cases. They are of endocardial origin therefore the prevalence of myxomas in the atrial septum is highest. Among myxomas left atrial ones are the most common (75%), followed by right atrial ones (18%). Case Presentation: We present a case of a cardiac ...

INTRODUCTION Atrial myxomas are the most frequent benign tumors of the heart. Left atrial myxomas are about 3-4 times more frequent then right. Clinical findings reveal atrioventricular obstruction symptoms and signs, symptoms and signs of peripheral arteries or pulmonary artery embolisation and/or nonspecific symptoms. AIM Review of atrial myxomas diagnosed at the Clinic of Cardiology in 20 ...

Myxomas are the most common cardiac tumors, accounting for about 50% of benign primary cardiac tumors, with the majority located in the left atrium, and 80% of which originate in the interatrial septum. We report two cases with severe cachexia, neurological sequelae, and severe biventricle dysfunction secondary to atrial myxomas with marked early improvement after tumor excision.
