Persistent muscle weakness, tendon elongation, and incomplete return to preinjury level are frequent sequelae after acute Achilles rupture, evidence-based knowledge of how best rehabilitate the injury is largely absent in literature. The objective this review illuminate discuss what extent an rupture affects muscle, tendon, function when assessed with total score (ATRS), strength, cross-section...
Left ventricular cineangiography was performed in 37 patients with mitral regurgitation. Twenty-one patients had rheumatic mitral valve disease determined by careful surgical and pathologic examination, 10 had papillary muscle dysfunction, and six had chordae tendineae rupture. Fourteen of the 16 patients considered to have nonrheumatic mitral regurgitation were confirmed surgically; the other ...
R upture of the coracobrachialis muscle is extremely rare; to the best of our knowledge, rupture of this muscle from indirect, nonpenetrating trauma has yet to be reported. This case report describes a distal coracobrachialis rupture that was caused by indirect trauma. Because of the progression of the injury and its clinical presentation, along with the rarity of a coracobrachialis rupture, th...
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the ultrasonographic (US) findings of rupture and the healing process of the medial head of the gastrocnemius ("Tennis Leg"). MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-two patients (age range: 30 to 45 years) with clinically suspected ruptures of the medial head of the gastrocnemius were referred to us for US examination. All the patients underwent US...
introduction: traumatic ruptures of the biceps tendon are rare, but serious, and usually involve the long head of the proximal insertion. rupture of the distal tendon account for only 3% of all biceps tendon ruptures. a history of tendonitis, overuse, or anabolic steroid abuse may predispose tendons to rupture. surgical repair, followed by a comprehensive rehabilitation program, was indicated t...
Rupture of the pectoralis major muscle is relatively rare. The authors present two cases of chronic rupture in which direct suturing was not possible; reconstruction was possible using a bone-patellar tendon autograft. They conclude that this surgical technique may be useful in some cases of chronic ruptures of the pectoralis major muscle in which direct tendon suturing is impossible.
Mitral papillary muscle rupture is usually caused by ischaemia as a complication of myocardial infarction. In a 76 year old patient with no significant disease or major cardiovascular risk factors, papillary muscle rupture was caused by obstructive intramural coronary amyloidosis, an unusual cause.
Vascular inflammation plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of cerebral aneurysms. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) protects against vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis, whereas dominant-negative mutations in PPARγ promote atherosclerosis and vascular dysfunction. We tested the role of PPARγ in aneurysm formation and rupture. Aneurysms were induced with a combinati...
Traumatic rupture of the superior oblique muscle is rare. We report a case of a 54-year-old man injured by the metal hook of a hanger, resulting in a rupture of the superior oblique muscle tendon. He complained of torsional diplopia when in the primary position. The distal margin of the superior oblique muscle was reattached to sclera 5 and 9 mm apart from the medial insertion of the superior r...
