Abstract Two widely used active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), ambroxol hydrochloride (AMB·HCl) and bromhexine (BMH·HCl), belong to the expectorant mucokinetic group of drugs. Their applications are found in treatment upper respiratory tract bronchopulmonary diseases. The compounds have similar chemical structures, but different enough distinguish their physicochemical properties. To underst...
The article summarizes the literature on use of N-acetylcysteine and its combination with 3% NaCl solution (FLU-ACYL broncho) in clinical practice. Studies show that is currently effective treatment respiratory diseases due to multicomponent effects system immune system. Hypertonic (3%) potentiates action by inhalation allows achieve good results acute chronic optimal time. One well-known Ukrai...
The minimal inhibitory concentration of azlocillin for Pseudomonas aeruginosa is appreciably reduced when combined with the mucolytic agent mesna (Mistabron) because of an independent bacteriostatic effect of mesna. Bactericidal activity of azlocillin is unaltered by mesna. Mesna inhalations alone or combined with azlocillin may benefit cystic fibrosis patients with pseudomonas lung infections.
Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent which is widely used in chronic bronchitis in Europe. We conducted a double-blind randomized controlled trial of ambroxol vs matched placebo in 90 patients with chronic bronchitis and difficulty clearing secretions. It was concluded that there was no advantage to taking ambroxol.
The therapeutic requirements of patients with CF are highly complex. Many patients require continuous care at home with many prophylactic medications, such as nebulised or oral antibiotics, pancreatic enzymes, mucolytic agents, vitamin and nutritional supplements as well as daily physiotherapy and a healthy lifestyle with adequate nutrition and exercise. These treatments are intensified and bec...
A study has been made on the penetration values in vitro of antibiotics through hog gastric mucin at pH 7.4. Determinations have also been done on the binding of antibiotics to mucus and human plasma. The mucolytic agent N-acetyl cysteine has been studied in regard to its effect on antibiotics penetrating mucus and for any possible inactivation of antibiotics.
BACKGROUND Individuals with chronic bronchitis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may suffer recurrent exacerbations with an increase in volume and/or purulence of sputum and any therapy that reduced the number of exacerbations would be useful. There is a marked difference between countries in terms of the prescribing of mucolytics depending on whether or not they are perceived to ...
INTRODUCTION Certain drugs are delivered to the nasal cavity because their intended site of action. These are administrated as nasal drops or sprays for a local effect. Such drugs in clinical use include decongestants, antibiotics and mucolytics. The nasal cavity may also be exploited as a route of entry into the systematic circulation, either because the absorption profile of the drug is appro...
