Communications via Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT for short) documents are commonplace, so it is crucial to take advantage of PPT documents for information security and digital forensics. In this paper, we propose a new method of text steganography, called MIMIC-PPT, which combines text mimicking technique with characteristics of PPT documents. Firstly, a dictionary and some sentence templates are a...
This study employs the use of two methods of canonical correlation analysis to investigate the relationship between two latent variables: corporation “size” and “profitability”. The variables examined are divided into an independent set of variables representing the latent variable “size”, and a dependent set of variables representing the latent variable called “profitability”. The first method...
In this paper we consider the problem of low power SpO2 sensors for acquiring Photoplethysmograph (PPG) signals. Most of the power in SpO2 sensors goes to lighting red and infra-red LEDs. We use compressive sensing to lower the amount of time LEDs are lit, thereby reducing the signal acquisition power. We observe power savings by a factor that is comparable to the sampling rate. At the receiver...
the present paper offers a postcolonial reading of two of the best novels by v. s. naipaul – half a life and the mimic men – in five chapters. the focus of this research is on different notions of postcolonial criticism and their application on the two novels as discussed from homi bhabha’s and frantz fanons points of view. having introduced the life and literary career of v. s. naipaul in th...
We have previously demonstrated that vibrotactile feedback of trunk motion significantly improves balance stability in individuals with vestibular deficits and older adults. Recently we have developed a Mobile Instrument for Motion Instruction and Correction (MIMIC) that enables an expert (i.e. physical therapist) to map his/her movements to a trainee (i.e. patient) in a hands-free fashion. MIM...
This study examined gender, socio-economic (SES), and ethnic group differences in academic performance (measured at 14 and 16 years) in a sample of 517 British pupils (mean age=16.5 years). White pupils outperformed their Black and Pakistani counterparts and high SES pupils consistently outperformed their low SES counterparts. Results from two Multiple Indicators Multiple Causes (MIMIC) models ...
We consider the MIMIc queue, where customers transfer to a critical state when their queueing (sojourn) time exceeds a random time. Lower and upper bounds for the distribution of the number of critical jobs are derived from two modifications of the original system. The two modified systems can be efficiently solved. Numerical calculations indicate the power of the approach.
This study of sibling resemblance in educational attainment seeks to determine whether the effect of family background on educational attainment differs according to family structure, birth order, and sex. In order to address these research problems, I analyze sibling data from both waves of the National Survey of Families and Households and use a form of the multiple indicator, multiple cause ...
This paper has two main goals. The first is to provide a framework for studying children well being utilising a capability approach. A list of capabilities for children in developing countries is drawn and its methodological justification is provided. The second aim is to suggest an econometric model to estimate child well being, utilising the list of capabilities provided in the first part of ...
