In the literature, only three Brevundimonas diminuta environmental isolates carrying metallo-β-lactamase genes were recently published. However, so far, no B. diminuta clinical isolates carrying these carbapenem resistance genes have been described. Here we report the first VIM-2 metallo-β-lactamase-producing B. diminuta clinical isolate obtained from an immunocompromised patient.

BACKGROUND Metallo-β-lactamase-production among Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, has become a challenge for treatment of infections due to these resistant bacteria. OBJECTIVES The aim of the current study was to evaluate the metallo-β-lactamase-production and carriage of bla-VIM genes among carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa isolated from burn wound infections. PATI...

conclusions beside our study, the detection of mbl genes were reported in a few studies conducted in iran. the spread of detected mbls producing p. aeruginosa were unprecedented in the region due to the lack of independent related researches or the novel incidence of these genes. this detection must be noted by associated clinical and health care services. results from 240 p. aeruginosa isolate...

background treatment of infectious diseases is becoming more challenging with each passing year. this is especially true for infections caused by pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen with the ability to rapidly develop resistance to multiple classes of antibiotics. objectives this study was conducted to determine the prevalence of metallo-β-lactamase (mbl)–producing strains among m...

The production of β-lactamase enzymes is one of the most distributed resistance mechanisms towards β-lactam antibiotics. Metallo-β-lactamases constitute a worrisome group of these kinds of enzymes, since they present a broad spectrum profile, being able to hydrolyze not only penicillins, but also the latest generation of cephalosporins and carbapenems, which constitute at present the last resou...

Klebsiella pneumoniae strains co-producing klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) and verona integron-encoded metallo-beta-lactamase (VIM) are frequently isolated in Greece and have also occurred in other European countries. Conventional combined disc tests exhibit low sensitivity against these emerging pathogens. We have evaluated modifications of the KPC/Metallo-β-Lactamase Confirmation ki...

β-Lactamase-mediated resistance is a growing threat to the continued use of β-lactam antibiotics. The use of the β-lactam-based serine-β-lactamase (SBL) inhibitors clavulanic acid, sulbactam, and tazobactam and, more recently, the non-β-lactam inhibitor avibactam has extended the utility of β-lactams against bacterial infections demonstrating resistance via these enzymes. These molecules are, h...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is among the most important pathogens in the nosocomial infections. A genetic mobile element, the integron, is one of the major agents involved in dissemination of multi-drug resistance among gram negative bacteria. During a descriptive study from October 2009 to August 2010, some 130 P. aeruginosa clinical isolates were collected from different wards of three hospitals...

Since antibiotics were first used, each new introduced class has been followed by a global wave of emergent resistance, largely originating in Europe and North America where they were first used. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus spread from the United Kingdom and North America across Europe and then Asia over more than a decade. Vancomycin-resistant enterococci and Klebsiella pneumon...
