This paper outlines the basic installation and operation of magnetic inductive flow velocity sensors on large underground cooling water pipelines. Research on the effects of cathodic protection as well as into other factors that might influence the overall performance of the meter is presented in this paper. The experiments were carried out on an immersion type magnetic meter specially used for...

The impact of strong magnetic fields G on the thermal evolution of neutron stars is investigated, 13 B 1 10 including crustal heating by magnetic field decay. For this purpose, we perform 2D cooling simulations with anisotropic thermal conductivity considering all relevant neutrino emission processes for realistic neutron stars. The standard cooling models of neutron stars are called into quest...

We have studied exchange anisotropy at ferromagnet/antiferromagnet ~FM-AFM! interfaces as a function of cooling field in Ni80Fe20 ~permalloy! films deposited on bulk single-crystal CoO substrates. Hysteresis loops measured after cooling through the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature in different magnetic fields show that the exchange bias has little dependence on cooling field. Large coolin...

We observe that high-Q electromagnetic cavity resonances increase the cyclotron cooling rate of pure electron plasmas held in a Penning-Malmberg trap when the electron cyclotron frequency, controlled by tuning the magnetic field, matches the frequency of standing wave modes in the cavity. For certain modes and trapping configurations, this can increase the cooling rate by factors of 10 or more....

We have discovered a positive unidirectional exchange anisotropy in antiferromagnetic (FeF2) and ferromagnetic (Fe) bilayers cooled through the antiferromagnetic critical temperature TN in large magnetic fields. For low positive cooling fields, the ferromagnet’s magnetization (M-H) loop center shifts to negative fields, as is normally observed in other systems. In contrast, large cooling fields...

in this research, some more applicable ferrofluids are produced and their mechanical specifications are measured, experimentally. also, their treatments in the ventilated cavity geometry are assessed numerically. the magnetite nanoparticles are produced by a chemical combination of fe2+ and fe3+ with nh3. in order to solve the nanoparticles in the new mediums, a proper coating is added to them....

Muon cooling schemes typically involve placing RF cavities in intense magnetic fields. Ongoing work has shown that this may reduce the maximum RF gradient by a significant factor. A linear cooling channel scheme is presented whereby RF cavities sit in much smaller fields. In addition, a scheme is studied for recirculating muons through this linear cooling channel in order to re-use hardware.

We examine the long-standing cooling flow problem in galaxy clusters with 3D MHD simulations of isolated clusters including radiative cooling and anisotropic thermal conduction along magnetic field lines. The central regions of the intracluster medium (ICM) can have cooling timescales of ∼ 200 Myr or shorter—in order to prevent a cooling catastrophe the ICMmust be heated by some mechanism such ...

We estimate the thermal conductivity of a weakly collisional magnetized plasma with chaotic magnetic field fluctuations. When the fluctuation spectrum extends over two or more decades in wave-vector, we find that thermal conduction is very efficient; the conduction coefficient is only a factor ∼ 5 below the classical Spitzer estimate. We suggest that conduction could play a significant role in ...
