Mycobacterium bovis causes tuberculosis in animals and humans. Infected cows can transmit the bacillus to humans via milk. Milk also contains lactic acid bacteria (LAB). LAB isolated from milk were put in milk cultures together with spiked M. bovis. Different LAB had different abilities to reduce M. bovis counts, as M. bovis was undetectable in some while it persisted in two of the cultures.
Profile analysis of mycolic acid ester patterns of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium bovis, and Mycobacterium bovis bacillus Calmette-Gúerin (BCG) using high-performance liquid chromatography indicated that separation of BCG from M. tuberculosis and M. bovis by elution and relative retention times is possible. Mycolic acid patterns of BCG eluted from the column 0.5 min before M. tubercu...
The epidemiology of tuberculosis (TB) in the United States is changing as the incidence of disease becomes more concentrated in foreign-born persons. Mycobacterium bovis appears to be contributing substantially to the TB incidence in some binational communities with ties to Mexico. We conducted a retrospective analysis of TB case surveillance data from the San Diego, California, region from 199...
Mycobacterium bovis, the causative agent of the bovine tuberculosis (bTB), mainly affects cattle, its natural reservoir, but also a wide range of domestic and wild mammals. Besides direct transmission via contaminated aerosols, indirect transmission of the M. bovis between wildlife and livestock might occur by inhalation or ingestion of environmental substrates contaminated through infected ani...
Infection by Mycoplasma bovis (M. bovis) can induce diseases, such as pneumonia and otitis media in young calves and mastitis and arthritis in older animals. Here, we report the finished and annotated genome sequence of M. bovis strain Hubei-1, a strain isolated in 2008 that caused calf pneumonia on a Chinese farm. The genome of M. bovis strain Hubei-1 contains a single circular chromosome of 9...
A monoclonal antibody to the lipopolysaccharide of Moraxella bovis is described. In an indirect fluorescent-antibody test, this monoclonal antibody reacted with 39 of 39 strains of M. bovis tested and did not react with 26 nonfermenting gram-negative coccobacilli other than M. bovis. When used in an indirect fluorescent-antibody test, it proved useful for rapid and easy identification of M. bovis.
Tuberculosis continues to be an important disease both in humans and animals. It causes morbidity, mortality and economic loss worldwide. The occurrence of Mycobacterium bovis disease in humans, domesticated and wild animals confirms the relevance of this zoonosis. M. bovis in humans continues to be reported in industrialised countries and in immigrants from regions of the world where tuberculo...
An epidemiological survey for the monitoring of bovine tuberculosis transmission was carried out in western Liguria, a region in northern Italy. Fifteen Mycobacterium bovis strains were isolated from 63 wild boar samples (62 from mandibular lymph nodes and 1 from a liver specimen). Sixteen mediastinal lymph nodes of 16 head of cattle were collected, and 15 Mycobacterium bovis strains were subse...
background: tuberculous endometritis is often a diagnostic dilemma for gynecologists in the evaluation of infertility. this study evaluated and compared different diagnostic methods in tuberculous endometritis. methods: 100 infertile women were investigated for tuberculous endometritis. the endometrial samples obtained by curettage were evaluated by ziehl-neelsen (zn) staining of the smears for...
