This study evaluates the effects of a metal halide light source on the post-polymerization properties of the Sinfony indirect composite material. Two polymerization systems were employed: the Hyper LII system, comprising a metal halide polymerization unit, and the Visio system, comprising two proprietary units designed for polymerizing the Sinfony composite. The composite material was polymeriz...

The attempt of this article was to assess reliability of Little's Irregularity Index (LII) as for stability of the treatment outcomes in adults with crowded mandibular incisors. LII was measured on a digital cast prior to an orthodontic treatment (T1) of the 302 patients thus allowing us to establish the treatment plan, which called for (a) expansion (group 1), interproximal stripping (group 2)...

The analysis of soot formation and oxidation is essential for Diesel engine development to meet future pollutant emission reduction requirements. In recent years laser-induced incandescence (LII) has developed to a powerful tool for soot diagnostics in flames, even in the challenging environment of Diesel combustion. This work presents some recent applications of LII for soot particle sizing in...

It was observed that the ionic conductivity of the solid-state electrolyte LiI/3-hydroxypropionitrile (HPN) = 1:4 (molar ratio) decreased dramatically with increasing iodine (I(2)) concentration, which differs from the conduction behavior of the Grotthuss transport mechanism observed in liquid or gel electrolytes. The short-circuit photocurrent density (J(sc)) of the dye-sensitized solar cell (...

Nuclear lamin isoforms of vertebrates can be divided into two major classes. The B-type lamins are membrane associated throughout the cell cycle, whereas A-type lamins are recovered from mitotic cell homogenates in membrane-free fractions. A feature of oogenesis in birds and mammals is the nearly exclusive presence of B-type lamins in oocyte nuclear envelopes. In contrast, oocytes and early cle...

Laser-induced incandescence (LII) has become a well-known technique for tracking soot in combustion environments. One of its applications is in the field of engine research, where it has been utilized to study in-cylinder soot behavior for many years. Almost all research up to date involves low-speed LII, allowing only one image to be taken per cycle. To obtain crank-angle-resolved data from a ...

An efficient, transition metal-free procedure for the cyclopropanation of alkenes using malononitrile and the LiI-tBuOCl combination under mild reaction conditions is described. The reaction mechanism most likely involves tBuOI generated in situ from LiI and tBuOCl. The utility of this new methodology has been demonstrated by the synthesis of a potential HIV-1 RT inhibitor.

In this study we present a model for laser-induced incandescence (LII). Different heat conduction models can be selected and monoor poly-disperse particles can be chosen as well as isolated, single particles or aggregates. We present a web interface that allows the scientific community to directly use this model. This will simplify the comparison of LII models developed by different research gr...

Information about the polydispersity of soot can in principle be gained from time-resolved laser-induced incandescence (LII) using pre-assumed particle-size distributions. This paper introduces an alternative method, called two-exponential reverse fitting (TERF) that is based on combined mono-exponential fits to the LII signal decay at various delay times. The method approximates the particle-s...

Data of several laser-induced incandescence (LII) experiments reported in the literature were re-analyzed to obtain the values of the thermal accommodation coefficient (TAC) of soot. The present analysis shows that the TAC of soot falls in a relatively narrow range between 0.23 (in N2 and flames) and 0.45 (in Argon). Using an aggregate based lowfluence LII model, the TAC of soot in a laminar di...
