Carriage of the New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase variant 1 (NDM-1) enables drug resistance to move between communities and hospitals. In Bangladesh, we found the blaNDM-1 gene in 62% of environmental waters and in fermentative and nonfermentative gram-negative bacteria. Escherichia coli sequence type (ST) 101 was most commonly found, reflecting a common global relationship between ST101 and NDM-1.
Background: Community-acquired infections by multidrug-resistant (MDR), extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing Klebsiella species (Klebsiella spp.) is of major concern worldwide. Antibiotic resistance, production of extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs), and carbapenemases, as well as the presence of classes 1, 2, and 3 integrons in outpatient isolates of Klebsiella collected from Yazd...
conclusions this study demonstrated the co-existence of rmtc and blandm-1 genes for the first time in turkey. the spread of this resistant type should be monitored and limited through molecular surveillance. results twenty k. pneumoniae strains showed resistance to amikacin, and 40 were resistant to gentamicin. the mic value was found to be > 512 µg/ml in five amikacin-resistant strains and > 1...
An Escherichia coli isolate with New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase was isolated from a patient with pyelonephritis and prostatitis who returned to Canada after recent hospitalization in India. The patient was successfully treated with ertapenem and fosfomycin. This patient highlights the role of international travel in the spread of antimicrobial drug resistance and blaNDM-1.
Background: Emergence of carbapenemase producing microorganisms, specifically the New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) and its different groups, in areas all over world, raised a global health concern. metallo-beta-lactamase destructs carbapenems, that are considered one last lines treatment for infections caused by resistant strains. Aim: Our study aimed detection NDM gene among carbapenem Kleb...
Gram-negative 'superbugs' such as New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase-1 (blaNDM-1) producing pathogens have become world's major public health threats. Development of molecular strategies that can rehabilitate the 'old antibiotics' and halt the antibiotic resistance is a promising approach to target them. We report membrane-active macromolecules (MAMs)that restore the antibacterial efficacy (enhan...
The aim of the present study was to confirm the existence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae carrying the blaNDM-1 gene in clinics in Hainan province, China. Collected clinical bacterial isolates that were Enterobacteriaceae strains suspected of producing carbapenemase were used as experimental strains. Drug resistance to imipenem, meropenem and other antibacterial agents was tested. Im...
BACKGROUND The resistance of aminoglycosides in strains that produce beta-lactamase can be developed through the multidrug resistant encoding genes carried by common plasmids. Recently, the association between 16S rRNA methyltransferase resistance and beta-lactamase enzymes carried by the same plasmids has drawn increased attention from researchers, particularly the association in aminoglycosid...
The purpose of this study was to detect carbapenemase genes in clinical isolates of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) obtained from patients admitted to Hua-Hin Hospital, Prachuab Khiri Khan Province, Thailand between January and December 2014. Screening of CRE was initially determined using disk diffusion method, and subsequently using modified Hodge test (MHT). Multiplex PCR was e...
Emergence of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae has become a challenging threat to public health. Two carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli, strain QD28 and QD29, were recovered from the aspirating sputum of a neonate and the urine of an adult in a Chinese hospital in 2013. Molecular typing revealed that both isolates belonged to the sequence type 167, but they were clon...
