In this paper, the thermo-electro-structural coupledfield in a cracked metal plate is studied using the finite element analysis. From the computational results, the compressive stresses reveal near the crack tip. This conclusion agrees with the past reference. Furthermore, the compressive condition can retard and stop the crack growth during the Joule heating process. Keywords—Compressive stres...

Joule heating is resulted from inevitable volumetric heating when an electric field is applied across conducting media and it would impose limitations to the performance of electrokinetic microfluidic devices. In this paper, the Joule heating and its effects on electroosmotic flow (EOF) in PDMS microfluidic channels are reported. 3D numerical simulation of the Joule heating induced temperature ...

joule-thomson cooling systems are used in refrigeration processes such as cryogenic gas liquefaction. although extensive studies have been carried out by researchers, most of them include cryogenic heat exchangers and their associated fields. in the current study, an attempt was made to indicate the effect of using inappropriate operational conditions in a cryogenic joule-thomson cooling system...

In principle, biocompatible, wireless nanotransducers might be useful for many in vivo biomedical applications such as hyperthermia, thermal blation, targeted drug delivery, and in vivo monitoring of physiological parameters. In this article, we theoretically study the possibility of applying ing-shaped wireless Joule nanoheaters as possible nanovectors for targeted drug delivery, hyperthermia,...

We present experiments that determine the temperature increase in a type-II superconductor due to Joule heating induced by vortex motion. The effect of Joule heating is detected by comparing the response of the vortex lattice to fixed amplitude current steps of short ~10 ms! and long ~4 s! duration, where the Joule heating is negligible and saturates, respectively. The thermometry is based on t...

in this work, designs for planar, interdigitated circular electrode structures for cell membrane permeabilization procedures are analysed using finite element method analysis. The generated electric field intensity, homogeneity and the Joule heating are evaluated. The optimal electrode configuration for successful transfection procedures is investigated. Based on the simulation results, an opti...

Measurements with the Sondrestrom radar have been used to examine the daytime thermospheric neutral wind and to relate that wind to other geophysical parameters. Ion drag is found to be particularly important for determining the wind pattern. However, evidence is presented that the wind pattern is significantly influenced by soft particle precipitation and, possibly, by Joule heating.

Heat exchangers play an important role in the performance of thermal machines, namely, electric power generators, engines and refrigerators. Regarding thermoelectrics, this influence is even higher, owing to the difficulty of transferring heat from the small surface area of a typical thermoelectric module to a bigger one. Particularly, in the hot face of an average 40 mm x 40 mm Peltier module,...

Coupled thermal and carrier transports (electron/ hole generation, recombination, diffusion and drifting) in laser photoetching of GaAs thin film is investigated. A new volumetric heating mechanism originating from SRH (Shockley– Read–Hall) non-radiative recombination and photon recycling is proposed and modeled based on recent experimental findings. Both volumetric SRH heating and Joule heatin...
