The chloroform soluble fractions of ethanolic extracts of five Inula belonging to the Compositae family were evaluated for cytotoxic activity against five different cell lines including CACO2 (human colon adenocarcinoma), MCF7 (human breast adenocarcinoma), HEPG2 (human hepatocellular carcinoma), VERO (green African monkey kidney) and WEHI164 (balb c mouse fibrosarcoma). Cytotoxic...
Forty four extracts from sixteen plants used traditionally as anticancer agents were evaluated in vitro for their antiproliferative activity against Hep-2, MCF-7, and Vero cell lines. Plants were fractionated using ethanol, methanol, chloroform, n-hexane, distilled water, and butanol. The antiproliferative activity was measured by MTT assay. TLC was used to identify active fractions. The apopto...
Several botanicals, including Crataegus oxycantha, Terminalia arjuna, Inula racemosa, and Astragalus membranaceus, have been found to have therapeutic benefit for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Crataegus oxycantha has been used traditionally as a cardiac tonic and current uses include treatment for angina, hypertension, arrhythmias, and congestive heart failure. Animal studies have al...
The aerial parts of Inula verbascifolia afforded two new guaianolide-type sesquiterpene lactones. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods (IR, MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT, 1H-1H COSY, HMQC, and HMBC).
The title compound, C(23)H(31)NO, was semisynthesized from isocostic acid, isolated from the aerial part of Inula Viscosa- (L) Aiton [or Dittrichia Viscosa- (L) Greuter]. The cyclo-hexene ring has a half-chair conformation, whereas the cyclo-hexane ring displays a chair conformation. The dihedral angle between the latter ring and its substituent is 83.6 (7)°.
The influence of the ethanolic extract of roots of Inula racemosa linn on degranulation of rat peritoneal mast cell induced by compound 48/80 and Egg albumin was studied. The inhibitory effect of the extract was significant in immunologically induced degranulation of mast cells.
Alantolactone and isoalantolactone, main bioactive compounds that are present in many medicinal plants such as Inula helenium, L. Inula japonica, Aucklandia lappa, Inula racemosa, and Radix inulae, have been found to have various pharmacological actions including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties, with no significant toxicity. Recently, the anticancer activity of alant...
The antiproliferative and antimicrobial effects of thirteen compounds isolated from Inula viscosa (L.) were tested in this study. The antiproliferative activity was tested against three cell lines using the MTT assay. The microdilution method was used to study the antimicrobial activity against two Gram positive bacteria, two Gram negative bacteria and one fungus. The apoptotic activity was det...
The title compound, C(21)H(25)ClO, was semi-synthesized from isocostic acid, isolated from the aerial part of Inula Viscosa- (L) Aiton [or Dittrichia Viscosa- (L) Greuter]. The cyclo-hexene ring has a half-chair conformation, whereas the cyclo-hexane ring displays a chair conformation.
