Studies have shown a high prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in close communities and that intrafamilial spread during early childhood may be a route of transmission. A total of 72 household members from 21 families were enrolled in this study. Sera from individuals showed 50/72 (69.4%) seropositive for IgG against H. pylori by ELISA. Western blots showed diversity in the protein profi...
BACKGROUND Egypt has the highest prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) worldwide. Although an effective HCV treatment program has been adopted, it is estimated that the number of newly reported cases in Egypt is still high. Intrafamilial transmission may play a role in the high prevalence of HCV in Egypt. Identification of risk factors for the transmission of HCV may help in decreasing its prev...
background the presence of an infected family member significantly increases the risk of hbv transmission, but many socio-demographic and viral characteristics of family members affect the transmission rate. objectives in this study, we have used data mining techniques to investigate the impact of different variables in intrafamilial transmission of hbv infection. patients and methods demograph...
Background: It is generally agreed that HCV can be efficiently transmitted parenterally, although data on HCV transmission by non-parenteral routes such as sexual and nonsexual household contacts are conflicting. HCV is highly prevalent in Egypt. Aim: To investigate HCV transmission between spouses, the burden and the potential risk factors of sexual and nonsexual transmission to prevent intraf...
Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is a common cause of hand, foot, and mouth disease and sometimes causes severe neurologic complications, mainly in children. We report a case of adult-onset encephalitis caused by intrafamilial transmission of a subgenogroup C4 strain of EV71. This case elucidates the risk for EV71 encephalitis even in adults.
Incidence and severity of invasive group A Streptococcus infections are of increasing concern in France and worldwide. The risk for secondary infection of close contacts is known but rarely described. We report a case of intrafamilial and life-threatening transmission of emm12 group A Streptococcus.
A new clonal complex of Mycobacterium bovis present at high frequency in cattle from west central African countries has been described as the African 1 (Af1) clonal complex. Here, the first intrafamilial cluster of human tuberculosis cases due to M. bovis Af1 clonal complex strains is reported. We discuss hypotheses regarding modes of transmission.
