Two end-member geometries, radial flow and ridge-channeled flow, have been proposed for the dispersion of material upwelling beneath Iceland. Seismic anisotropy provides information on mantle flow, and therefore has the potential to discriminate these two geometries. In this study, we combine the HOTSPOT and SIL datasets (39 stations) and select 28 events for teleseismic shear-wave splitting an...

Here we report the results from a study on the glaucous gull Larus hyperboreus, an Arctic species which has been breeding in Iceland for centuries, and the herring gull Larus argentatus which has a wide distribu...

[1] Iceland is a strong localized source of non-eruptive volcanic warming and cooling. Temperature trend maps show that this phenomenon is localized to an area of about twice that of Iceland. With altitude the area remains constant but the phenomenon weakens and changes sign upon passing through the tropopause. The effect’s magnitude implies a large positive feedback, according to a conventiona...

This paper first tells the rather unusual story of the acquisition of the first scientific computer by the University of Iceland. It then goes on to describe the efforts by the staff of the University Computing Centre to introduce key persons to the use of computers and to teach selected groups of people programming and assist them in using the computer. Finally it lists several applications in...
