In order to investigate the performance of suprathreshold color-difference tolerances with different visual scales and different perceptual correlates, a psychophysical experiment was carried out by the method of constant stimuli using CRT colors. Five hue circles at three lightness (L*=30, 50, and 70) and chroma (C*ab=10, 20, and 30) levels were selected to ensure that the color-difference tol...

Three experiments evaluated whether the apparent reflexivity effect reported by Sweeney and Urcuioli (2010) for pigeons might, in fact, be transitivity. In Experiment 1, pigeons learned symmetrically reinforced hue-form (A-B) and form-hue (B-A) successive matching. Those also trained on form-form (B-B) matching responded more to hue comparisons that matched their preceding samples on subsequent...

Using 24 observers with normal color vision, perceived shifts in hue were determined for a yellow-red, green, and blue-green at intermittencies of 5, 10, and 20 cps. The hue shift for yellow-red was consistent with the hue shift exhibited by a deuteranomalous observer while the hue shift for green and blue-green was consistent with that exhibited by a protanomalous observer.

The macaque striate cortex (V1) contains neurons that respond preferentially to various hues. The properties of these hue-selective neurons have been studied extensively at the single-unit level, but it is unclear how stimulus hue is represented by the distribution of activity across neuronal populations in V1. Here we use the intrinsic optical signal to image V1 responses to spatially uniform ...

In this study, Swedish Natural Color System (NCS) unique hue data were used to evaluate the performance of unique hue predictions by the CIECAM02 colour appearance model. The colour appearance of 108 NCS unique hue stimuli was predicted using CIECAM02, and their distributions were represented in a CIECAM02 ac–bc chromatic diagram. The best-fitting line for each of the four unique hues was found...

Edge detection is the name for a set of mathematical methods which target at classifying points in a image at which the image intensity varies sharply or, has discontinuities. This paper has focused on detecting the edges for the Hue factor in Human visual system (HSV). Hue is usually represented by position significance, so the existing edge detection techniques has been incapable to correctly...

A new method of color image segmentation is proposed in this paper. It’s based on K-means algorithm in HSI space and has the advantage over those based on the RGB space. Both the hue and the intensity components are fully utilized. In the process of hue clustering, the special cyclic property of the hue component is taken into consideration. The paper gives the definition of the distance and th...

Three methods for summarising the characteristics of colour images are presented. They all rely on the ability to represent colours in terms of a 3D-polar coordinate system having independent brightness and saturation coordinates. The methods discussed are: hue statistics and saturation-weighted hue statistics, saturation-weighted hue histograms, and colour statistics histograms. The latter are...

Primate visual systems support an elaborate specialization for processing color information. Concentrating on the hue component, we observe that, contrary to Mondrian-like assumptions, hue varies in a smooth manner for ecologically important natural imagery. To represent these smooth variations, and to support those information processing tasks that utilize hue, a piecewise smooth hue field is ...
