We propose an automatic procedure for the correct segmentation of grey and white matter in MR data sets of the human brain. Our method exploits general anatomical knowledge for the initial segmentation and for the subsequent refinement of the estimation of the cortical grey matter. Our results are comparable to manual segmentations.
A spread pattern of a tumor in medical images is an important factor for classification of the tumor. The spread pattern is generally not considered when we use only one segment for classification. In order to include the spread pattern for tumor analysis, we propose an approach for classification of tumors in mammograms using two segments for a mass. The proposed approach is performed in two s...
The cardiac conduction system (CCS) has been in the spot light of the clinical and modeling community in recent years because of its fundament role in physiology and pathophysiology of the heart. Experimental research has focused mainly on investigating the electrical properties of the Purkinje-ventricular-junctions (PVJs). The structure of the PVJs has only been described through schematic dra...
This case study uses data from a self-insured employer plan to perform an analysis into the properties of the health care cost curve. The analysis shows that one statistical property of the health care cost curve is that costs rise continuously, not on an annual or monthly basis. Graphical analysis indicates that managed care techniques used to restrain costs can also smooth utilization, produc...
A novel robust method for surface tracking in range-image sequences is presented which combines a clustering method based on surface models with a particle-filter-based 2-D affine-motion estimator. Segmented regions obtained at previous time steps are used to create seed areas by comparing measured depth values with those obtained from surface-model fitting. The seed areas are further refined u...
Tong, A.W.K., Qureshi, R., Li, X. and Sather, A.P. 1998. A system for ultrasound image segmentation for loin eye measurements in swine. Can. Agric. Eng. 40:047-053. An image segmentation system was developed for detecting the muscle longissimus thoraces (LT) in ultrasonic images of live pigs. The images have a low contrast, a high level of noise, and a high degree of variance in terms of textur...
Besl and Jain's variable order surface tting algorithm 1] is a useful method of constructing a noise-free reconstruction of 2 1 2 D range images with a small number of primitive regions. The use of bivariate polynomi-als as the approximation basis functions is linear, fast and easy to render robust. Seeding ts from regions classiied by diierential geometry is an important step towards a viewpoi...
BACKGROUND Gaining and maintaining spinal balance after surgery is of great importance for early onset scoliosis (EOS). However, tendency of balance on the coronal plane after growing rod surgery has not been studied before. This study evaluated the effect of growing rod treatment on coronal balance (CB) during serial lengthening surgeries in EOS. METHODS All EOS patients treated with growing...
Change detection is an increasingly important research topic in remote sensing application. Previous studies achieved land cover change detection (LCCD) using bi-temporal remote sensing images. However, many widely used methods detected change depending on a series of parameters, and determining parameters is time-consuming. Furthermore, numerous methods are data-dependent. Therefore, their deg...
