background: small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (sibo) may have a role in the pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndrome (ibs). so, the aim of this study was to assess the association between sibo and ibs by using glucose breath test (gbt) in kerman city as the first study in iranian population. method: 107 patients with ibs and 107 healthy individualswere enrolled in our study. all the part...
OBJECTIVES Analyze a set of data of hydrogen breath tests by use of data mining tools. Identify new patterns of H2 production. METHODS Hydrogen breath tests data sets as well as k-means clustering as the data mining technique to a dataset of 2571 patients. RESULTS Six different patterns have been extracted upon analysis of the hydrogen breath test data. We have also shown the relevance of e...
Sucrose breath hydrogen tests were performed on 7 children with proved sucrase isomaltase deficiency. All children had raised breath hydrogen excretion. The amount of hydrogen produced and symptoms experienced increased with increasing sucrose loads. The sucrose breath hydrogen test appears to be a reliable indicator of sucrose malabsorption in sucrase isomaltase deficiency.
BACKGROUND Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and sugar malabsorption (lactose, fructose, sorbitol) may play a role in irritable bowel syndrome. The lactulose breath test is a reliable and non-invasive test for the diagnosis of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. The lactose, fructose and sorbitol hydrogen breath tests are widely used to detect specific sugar malabsorption. AIM To asses...
BACKGROUND Sugar intolerance and functional gastrointestinal disorders are both common in school age children. Both may present with similar complaints such as abdominal pain, diarrhea and bloating. Lactose, fructose and sucrose hydrogen breath tests are widely used to detect sugar malabsorption. AIM To determine the proportion of children with symptoms of functional gastrointestinal disorder...
BACKGROUND/AIMS Carbohydrate malabsorption is frequent in patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders and in healthy volunteers and can cause gastrointestinal symptoms mimicking irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of symptomatic lactose and fructose malabsorption in a large population of patients with IBS-like symptoms based on Rome II...
