The distribution of (59)Fe has been investigated in nonpregnant, pregnant and lactating rats and their young after injection of solutions containing a high molecular weight iron-dextrin complex (iron-dextrin, intravenously), and a low molecular weight complex of iron, sorbitol and citric acid (iron-sorbitol, intramuscularly), each labelled with (59)Fe. At different times after injection of a do...

We evaluated the inducibility of nitrate-dependent Fe(II)-EDTA oxidation (NDFO) in non-growth, chloramphenicol-amended, resting-cell suspensions of Dechloromonas sp. strain UWNR4 and Acidovorax sp. strain 2AN. Cells previously incubated with Fe(II)-EDTA oxidized ca. 6-fold more Fe(II)-EDTA than cells previously incubated with Fe(III)-EDTA. This is the first report of induction of NDFO by Fe(II).

the 440 fertile eggs, in a completely randomized design were divided into 11 treatments with four replicatesand 10 eggs per each replicate. treatments including: (t1; control; without injection), (t2; injected with 0.3ml saline 9.0%; sham control), (t3, t4 and t5) 25, 75, 125 ppm fe-nano, (t6, t7 and t8) 50, 100, 150 ppmfe-nano-alimet chelate, (t9, t10 and t11) 50, 100, 150 ppm fe-aliment chela...

We investigate the growth, fabrication, and characterization of an electrically-injected spin-polarized laser utilizing an Fe/n+-Al0.1Ga0.9As Schottky tunnel barrier for efficient spin injection into an InGaAs quantum well vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser. A threshold current reduction of 11% and maximum degree of circular polarization of 23% are observed for a 15 μm mesa diameter laser a...

Ten cases of Ménétrier's disease (;giant hypertrophic gastritis') have been studied with radioiodine-labelled albumin (all 10 cases), IgG (eight cases), transferrin (two cases), and IgM (six cases). Abnormal gastric loss of plasma protein was present in all cases as demonstrated by (59)Fe-iron dextran (eight cases), (51)Cr-albumin (one case), and (131)I-polyvinylpyrrolidone (one case). None of ...

We introduce a new one-transistor nonvolatile memory, which benefits from the two seemingly unrelated memory mechanisms; namely ferroelectric (FE) polarization and nonvolatile charge injection. The hybrid memory demonstrates larger memory window and reduced depolarization field during retention compared to conventional FE-FETs. This summary discusses the working principle, device fabrication an...

The fate of small doses of isotopically labeled isologous hemoglobin was studied in the rat. When haptoglobin depleted animals were given 2.0 mg of (59)Fe hemoglobin intravenously, nearly half was trapped by the kidneys. Kidney (59)Fe activity disappeared slowly over several weeks. Whatever iron was lost from the kidneys was largely reutilized. In contrast, the porphyrin of hemoglobin absorbed ...

Protein-related nanotheranostic agents hold great promise as tools to serve many clinical applications. Proteins such as BSA are used to regulate the synthesis of nondegradable inorganic nanoparticles (NPs). To fully employ the potential of such proteins, a new type of biosafe nanotheranostic agent must be designed to optimize BSA as a biomineralization agent. Here, a straightforward BSA-assist...

The metabolism of transferrin-bound indium and iron were compared by in vivo studies in the rat. Rats were injected with serum transferrin labeled with “In and “Fe, and, at intervals ranging from 20 mm to 5 days after injection, they were killed. They were perfused through the portal vein with 200 ml of 0.9% saline, and the residual radioactivity, expressed as a percentage of the injected dose,...

I . The effects of ingestion of diets deficient in both copper and iron on storage of these elements and on the red cell indices have been studied in rats. 2. Injection of Cu into rats whose stores of Cu had been virtually exhausted resulted in a temporary increase in the concentration of plasma Fe and depletion of the Fe stored in the liver. Storage of Fe in the spleen seemed to be affected so...
