For the paper industry, the disposal and management of the yielded sludge are a considerable challenge. In our work, the paper mill sludge-derived magnetically separable heterogeneous catalyst (PMS-Fe-380) was prepared easily through a facile synthesis method. The morphology and structure of PMS-Fe-380 were fully characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectrosco...

A bio-based magnetic nano-catalyst (Fe3O4@nano-dextrin/Ti(IV)) was synthesized via the preparation of Fe3O4@nano-dextrinas magnetic support and then its treatment with titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4). The properties of this catalyst were characterized by different kinds of techniques such as FT-IR, FESEM, TEM, ICP, XRF, VSM and TGA....

Fe₃O₄ microsphere is a good candidate as support for catalyst because of its unique magnetic property and large surface area. Coating Fe₃O₄ microspheres with other materials can protect them from being dissolved in acid solution or add functional groups on their surface to adsorb catalyst. In this paper, a carbon layer was coated onto Fe₃O₄ microspheres by hydrothermal treatment using polyethyl...

The effect of Cu on the reduction behavior and surface properties of supported and unsupported Fe-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) catalysts was investigated using in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in combination with ex situ bulk characterization. During exposure to 0.4 mbar CO-H(2) above 180 degrees C, the reduction of CuO to C...

We report the synthesis of a superparamagnetic nanoparticle MNP (γ-Fe(2)O(3)/polymer) supported dendritic catalyst based on a bulky electron-rich phosphine Pd(II) complex. The high reactivity of this catalyst is described in a copper-free Sonogashira C-C cross-coupling reaction in water, and the significant role of surfactant additives is highlighted in the recovery study.

Producing clean hydrogen from renewable resources will reduce our dependence on using fossil fuels towards a green and sustainable future. Biomass gasification is regarded as a promising technology for hydrogen production. In this work, low cost Ni-based catalyst was applied in a two-stage fixed bed reaction system. Fe was added into Ni-Al catalyst(80mol.% Al) by co-precipitation method with va...

A simple and convenient one-pot synthetic route to directly prepare a self-reductive mesoporous copper-iron-silicate (CuO(x)-Fe-silicate)-based catalyst has been developed. The resultant catalyst is highly active and stable in methanol reforming without needing a pre-reduction procedure.

Effects of physical and chemical states of iron-based catalysts on the formation of carbon-encapsulated iron nanoparticles (CEINs) synthesized thermally from kraft lignin were investigated. Experimental results indicated that if solution-based iron nitrate (FeN) was used as an iron source for the catalyst, CEINs observed were α-Fe and γ-Fe-based cores encapsulated by few layers graphitic-carbon...

We report surface-bound growth of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) at temperatures as low as 350 degrees C by catalytic chemical vapor deposition from undiluted C2H2. NH3 or H2 exposure critically facilitates the nanostructuring and activation of sub-nanometer Fe and Al/Fe/Al multilayer catalyst films prior to growth, enabling the SWNT nucleation at lower temperatures. We suggest that carbo...

Vertical single-walled and double-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT and DWNT) arrays have been grown using a catalyst embedded within the pore walls of a porous anodic alumina (PAA) template. The initial film structure consisted of a SiOx adhesion layer, a Ti layer, a bottom Al layer, a Fe layer, and a top Al layer deposited on a Si wafer. The Al and Fe layers were subsequently anodized to create a ...
