amelanotic melanoma is a variant of malignant melanoma comprising 2% to 8% of all malignant melanomas. the amelanotic presentation of melanoma in the oral cavity is extremely rare and has been reported only occasionally in the literature. moreover, the lack of melanin makes these tumors difficult to diagnose than that of pigmented lesions and the prognosis tends to be poorer. herein, we report ...

Objective We have previously shown that Rose Bengal (RB) alone, not as a photosensitiser, could induce apoptotic- and non-apoptotic cell death in different melanoma cell lines. To clarify RB-induced toxicity mechanisms, role of caspases and reactive oxygen specious (ROS) were studied in melanoma cells. Material and Methods Human melanoma cell lines, Me 4405 and Sk-Mel-28 were cultured in DM...
background: anorectal melanoma is one of the rare but significant malignancies of the anorectal area. this malignancy currently accounts for 1% of all types of melanoma and less than 1% of all the anorectal area malignancies. very rare cases of this disease have been reported worldwide. anorectal melanoma is mostly diagnosed while treating other benign conditions of this area such as hemorrhoid...
Cancer is a genetic condition. Some cancers are inherited, but most are caused by mutations in somatic cells. The cause of these mutations is inherent error in the transcription of DNA or exposure to carcinogens. Malignant melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer which develops from pigment-containing cells known as melanocytes. The most potent risk factors for melanoma is the presence ...
Background and Aim: Malignant melanoma is one of the most dangerous types of skin cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate Spatial Thermographic Imaging (STI) in differentiating benign from malignant skin lesions. Methods: One-hundred and ten STI images were taken from the volunteers who had lesions being suspected for malignant melanoma. Benignity or malignancy of lesions was determine...
Malignant melanoma in children is rare. It can arise from congenital melanocytic nevi. In pediatric patients, diagnosis of melanoma is difficult and challenging because the physicians have a low index of suspicion. Marrow metastasis in malignant melanoma especially in children is extremely uncommon. Here, the authors reported a 5 year old girl who was presented with a 4 month history of pelvic ...
Herein we describe a case of intraocular melanoma in a17-year old leukemic patient. The history, histological findings of the enucleated eye, blood and bone marrow of the patient were investigated. The enucleated eye contained epitheloid cell type melanoma instead of leukemic cell infiltration. We conclude that intraocular malignant melanoma can occur in acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) is the most common type of cutaneous melanoma which can occur on the palms, soles or beneath the nail plate. Diagnosis of ALM is usually delayed and melanomas can only be diagnosed at advanced clinical stage so the prognosis is often poor. We report a case of Acral lentiginous melanoma which misdiagnosed as chronic ulcer. Chronic lesions even if benign i...
melanoma of the oral cavity is a rare malignant disease. on account of the presence at relatively obscure areas in the oral cavity, most of oral malignant melanomas are diagnosed at a late stage. early diagnosis is essential for successful treatment and perhaps is the key factor in improving the prognosis of oral malignant melanoma. however, no large clinical series exist, and in fact, clinical...
