Despite the resources dedicated since 2001 to training health providers in emergency and bioterrorism preparedness and response, the literature on the participation of physician assistants (PAs) is very limited. The purpose of this pilot study was to explore the training level and experiences of PAs in the diagnosis and treatment of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive age...
Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) are relatively new group of analytical tools. Work principles of such devices partially evolved from chromatographic techniques, particularly planar chromatography. Recently, analytical devices based on paper are subject of extensive research, mostly focused on fast and non-expensive biochemical analysis but also for screening of medical and e...
The development of versatile systems capable of providing rapid, portable, and inexpensive detection of explosives and energetic compounds are critically needed to offer enhanced levels of protection against current and future threats to homeland security, as well as satisfying a wide range of applications in the fields of forensic analysis, emergency response, and industrial hazards analysis. ...
Overview Stockpile management is a wide-ranging term that covers specific technical areas related to the safety and security of ammunition and explosives, in addition to issues such as the determination of stockpile size, types of stockpiles, and the management of ammunition in service. Effective stockpile management requires comprehensive planning in order to ensure that all activities related...
A series of oxygen-rich organic peroxide compounds each containing two bis(hydroperoxy)methylene groups is described. Energetic testing shows that these compounds are much less sensitive toward impact and friction than existing classes of organic peroxides. The compounds are highly energetic, which may lead to practical peroxide-based explosives.
Electrospun aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-based copolymer films exhibit an approximately 9-fold increase in response to explosive vapors compared to dense films although porous copolymer films have a thickness as high as 560 ± 60 nm.
Extended multireference configuration interaction with singles and doubles (MR-CISD) calculations of nitroethylene (H2C═CHNO2) were carried out to investigate the photodynamical deactivation paths to the ground state. The ground (S0) and the first five valence excited electronic states (S1-S5) were investigated. In the first step, vertical excitations and potential energy curves for CH2 and NO2...
The detection of explosives and explosive-related compounds has become a heightened priority in recent years for homeland security and counter-terrorism applications. There has been a huge increase in research within this area-through both the development of new, innovative detection approaches and the improvement of existing techniques. Developments for miniaturisation, portability, field-rugg...
This review discusses the recent advances in the syntheses of high explosive energetic materials. Syntheses of some relevant modern primary explosives and secondary high explosives, and the sensitivities and properties of these molecules are provided. In addition to the synthesis of such materials, processing improvement and formulating aspects using these ingredients, where applicable, are dis...
