A high level of accuracy during protein synthesis is considered essential for life. Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) translate the genetic code by ensuring the correct pairing of amino acids with their cognate tRNAs. Because some aaRSs also produce misacylated aminoacyl-tRNA (aa-tRNA) in vivo, we addressed the question of protein quality within the context of missense suppression by Cys-tRNA(...

In 2 experiments, 6 ruminally cannulated Holstein steers (205 +/- 23 and 161 +/- 14 kg initial BW in Exp. 1 and 2, respectively) housed in metabolism crates were used in 6 x 6 Latin squares to study the effects of excess AA supply on Met (Exp. 1) and Leu (Exp. 2) use. All steers received a diet based on soybean hulls (DMI = 2.66 and 2.45 kg/d in Exp. 1 and 2, respectively); ruminal infusions of...

Broiler responses of economic interest, such as BW gain, FCR, and breast meat yield (BMY), can be optimized by increasing amino acid (AA) concentrations, improving the AA balance, or both. The AA requirements to maximize a response are lowest for BW gain, increased for FCR, and highest for BMY. A maximum performance response is reached when the response plateaus, whereas an optimal response is ...

Although alcohol consumption is related to increased cancer risk, its molecular mechanism remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that an intake of 10% alcohol for 4 weeks in rats is genotoxic due to induction of micronuclei. Acetaldehyde (AA), the first product of ethanol metabolism, is believed to be responsible for DNA damage induced by alcohol. Here, we observe that AA effectively blocks DNA ...

To assess the effect of food form (FF) on postprandial (PP) plasma amino acid (AA) concentrations, ten older adults (five men and five women, age 72 (SEM 2) years, BMI 26·0 (SEM 0·9) kg/m) consumed, on separate days, energy and macronutrient-matched test meal replacement products (MRP) (approximately 25 % of the subject’s daily energy need; approximately 54 % carbohydrate, 21 % protein, 25 % fa...

Quality of protein (indicated by amino acid [AA] composition) that enters the small intestine (SI) of growing ruminants is dictated largely by the AA composition of microbial protein. The AA supply is well-balanced and, although individual AA can be experimentally determined to be first- or second-limiting, it seems that several AA (sulfur AA, lysine, histidine, and possibly threonine, valine, ...

We have analyzed the highly conserved N-terminus of Hansenula polymorpha Pex14p for its function in peroxisomal matrix protein import. The region comprising aa 10-54 of HpPex14p is predicted to contain three alpha-helices. Its alpha-helical structure was confirmed by CD analysis of a synthetic peptide, corresponding to residues 8-58. Deletion of aa 1-21 of HpPex14p, but not of aa 1-9, completel...

In this paper we study the class of square matrices A such that AA − AA is nonsingular, where A stands for the Moore–Penrose inverse of A. Among several characterizations we prove that for a matrix A of order n, the difference AA−AA is nonsingular if and only if R(A) ⊕ R(A) = Cn,1, where R(·) denotes the range space. Also we study matrices A such that R(A) = R(A).

Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a rare mesenchymal tumor that usually occurs in the pelvis and perineum of young females. AA can simulate Bartholin's gland cyst, abscess, lipoma, simple labial cyst, or other pelvic soft tissue tumors. Cross-sectional imaging, particularly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), plays an essential role in the diagnosis and management of AA. We report a case of AA in a ...
