Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) induces formation of actin pedestals in infected host cells. Agents that inhibit the activity of Rho, Rac, and Cdc42, including Clostridium difficile toxin B (ToxB), compactin, and dominant negative Rho, Rac, and Cdc42, did not inhibit formation of actin pedestals. In contrast, treatment of HeLa cells with ToxB inhibited EPEC invasion. Thus, Rho, Rac, an...

The production of the bundle-forming pilus subunit BfpA was investigated in 44 enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) diarrheal isolates after growth on several conventional bacteriological media. In all, the use of brucella agar supplemented with 4.5 mM sodium bisulfite resulted in a higher detection of BfpA-producing EPEC.

The locus of enterocyte effacement (LEE) pathogenicity island of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) O157:H7 possesses the same genes in identical order and orientation as the LEE of enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) O127:H6 but is unable to form attaching and effacing (A/E) lesions or to secrete Esp proteins when it is cloned in an E. coli K-12 background. The A/E phenotype could not be re...

INTRODUCTION Escherichia coli causes gastroenteritis in humans and animals. CASE PRESENTATION In this study, both Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and atypical enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) strains were identified in a stool sample from a healthy child, and they were serotyped as Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) ONT : H19 and atypical enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) O37 : H45. CON...

background infectious diarrhoeal diseases cause major problems throughout the world and are responsible for considerable morbidity and mortality. enteropathogenic escherichia coli (epec) may cause infantile diarrhoea among children in developing countries. objectives the aim of this study was to define the prevalence of epec strains in raw milk samples. materials and methods raw milk samples co...

In the present study, we compared two strains of serotypes O88:H25 and O145:H45 with an enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) adherence factor-positive (EAF+) strain of the classic enteropathogenic E. coli serotype O111ab:H2 for their association with HeLa cells and with biopsies of human duodenal mucosa. Both strains not belonging to the classic EPEC serotype showed virulence properties sim...

Abstract Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli(EPEC) and enterohemorrhagic E. coli(EHEC) are significant causative agents for diarrheal diseases globally. Vaccination has been deemed as the most effective strategy preventing EPEC EHEC caused foodborne illnesses; however, FDA not yet licensed any vaccine against or EHEC. Of note, live attenuated bacterial scarcely investigated infection, in particul...

BACKGROUND Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli(EPEC) is a major cause of diarrhoea in children below 5 years of age. Serotyping is classical method for identification of EPEC strains. But serotypic markers are rarely sufficient to reliably identify the strains as Escherichia coli. Introduction of PCR methodology which depends on detection of virulence factors has provided a practical and rapid wa...

Background: Foodborne infection caused by EnterotoxigenicEscherichia coli (ETEC) and Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) is one of the major health problems, particularly in the developing countries. Therefore, it is vital to identify the origin of food contamination to plan control strategies efficiently. Method: A tota...

aim : we intended to find out the diversity of epec isolates among asymptomatic or diarrheal children in iran using ribotyping. background : enteropathogenic escherichia coli (epec) is responsible for gastroenteritis especially in young children. patients and methods : a total of 39 epec collected strains were serotyped and the presence of virulence genes as well as eaf plasmid among the strain...
