The differential diagnosis among the most frequent skin tumors, base-cell carcinoma and squamous-cell carcinoma, and the rare types, the sweat gland carcinomas, is fundamental for the early diagnosis and prognosis of a patient. These are classified as eccrine and apocrine, and the eccrine is the most common type. The eccrine sweat glands are most abundant in the palms of the hands and the feet ...
Eccrine nevi are very rare cutaneous lesions which may or may not be accompanied by localized hyperhidrosis. Histological findings usually reveal a slightly increased number of eccrine glands without any other abnormalities. Herein we present a case of eccrine nevus not associated with localized hyperhidrosis on the left wrist of a 6-year-old girl. The lesion was a brownish, ovoid plaque approx...
Primary signet-ring cell/histiocytoid carcinomas of the eyelid are extremely rare tumors considered to originate from sweat glands. Here, we report the case of a 72-year-old man diagnosed with primary signet-ring cell/histiocytoid carcinoma of the eyelid and present immunohistochemical analyses of the eyelid apocrine gland (Moll gland) and apocrine and eccrine sweat glands of perineum and axill...
Malignant eccrine poroma is a rare skin appendageal tumor arising from the intraepidermal ductal portion of the eccrine sweat gland. It may develop either spontaneously or from a long-standing eccrine poroma. It usually affects the aged and is located most commonly on lower extremities. We report a case of malignant eccrine poroma occurring on the suprapubic area of a 75-year-old Korean man. He...
despite of the fact that the vulva contains a high density of apocrine and anogenital mammary glands in addition to eccrine glands and folliculosebaceous units, the benign vulvar adnexal tumours are rare. though the varied clinical presentation and diverse histopathological spectrum of vulvar neoplasms has amazed the pathologists, only few studies have been reported in literature. the present f...
The characteristic clinical and histological features of three cases of malignant eccrine poroma are discussed, in addition to the metastatic disease that had occurred in two cases. These cases were compared with previously reported cases of malignant eccrine poroma that had metastasised, and it is suggested that a strict classification of malignant eccrine sweat gland tumours should be made.
Tumours of cutaneous sweat glands are uncommon, with a wide histological spectrum, complex classification and many different terms often used to describe the same tumour. Furthermore, many eccrine/apocrine lesions coexist within hamartomas or within lesions with composite/mixed differentiation. In addition to the eccrine and apocrine glands, two other skin sweat glands have recently been descri...
Cutaneous sweat gland carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant skin cancer which may arise from the apocrine or eccrine types of glands. It has a high mitotic index and potential [1] usually occurs in elderly people, without any gender predilection.
Eccrine poroma is described as a benign neoplasm originating from the intraepidermal eccrine duct of sweat glands. This tumor is known to arise in bare skin areas, but more rarely appeared in head and neck region. A 54-year-old female presented with a mass on the retroauricular aspect of the left auricle. There was a soft, protruding, and purple-colored, solitary mass of about 1.0×1.0 cm in siz...
Neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis (NEH) is a neutrophilic dermatosis primarily affecting the eccrine glands and occurs in patients undergoing chemotherapy. It must be distinguished from infections, drug eruptions, leukaemia cutis or other forms of skin diseases. As it is self-limiting, establishing the diagnosis will avoid unnecessary treatment for infections or changes in drug therapy.
